Conventional mechanism (i.e. rigid link mechanisms) has limited accuracy and repeatability because of friction, backlash. Mechanism offers a relative motion between rigid links via joints. Conventionally these joints are pin, sliding, rolling, liquid film etc. These joints have inherent nonlinear frictional characteristics which are creating difficulty in control micro-nano positioning in precision mechanisms. To achieve high resolution and precision problems of friction, backlash in mechanism needs to be removed. These joints are replaced by flexible elements such as flexural hinge, flexural links which offers advantage of frictionless and smooth motion. Flexural mechanisms are developed using basic building blocks such as hinges and planar type. Flexural building blocks should be such that it offers lesser / zero resistance to motion in desired direction and maximum / infinite resistance in orthogonal direction. Motion generated in orthogonal direction is called parasitic motion. Double Flexural Manipulator (DFM) is a planar type building block which offers theoretically zero parasitic error motion with negligible amount of rotation of motion stage. This article presents design, development, system integration, system identification and PID control implementation on DFM. Developed flexural stage is integrated with desktop PC via dSPACE micro-controller. System identification (Static and Dynamic) is carried out and performance parameters such as stiffness, natural frequency, damping characteristics and frequency characterization of DFM are estimated and validated via due experimentations. Estimated transfer function of DFM is further used for development of control system, and PID control parameters are tuned. Real time PID implementation gives a position accuracy of few microns at high scanning speed of 2.5 mm/s.

In recent years Quantum Cryptography gets more attention as well as becomes most promising cryptographic field for faster, effective and more secure communications. Quantum Cryptography is an art of science which overlap quantum properties of light under quantum mechanics on cryptographic task instead of current state of algorithms based on mathematical computing technology. Major algorithms for public key encryption and some digital signature scheme such as RSA, El Gamal cryptosystem, hash function are vulnerable at quantum adversaries. Most of the factoring problem can be broken by Shore's algorithm and quantum computer threatens other hand discrete logarithm problem. Our paper describes why modern cryptography contributes quantum cryptography, security issues and future goals of modern cryptography.

Emotion recognition is one of the important highlights of human emotional intelligence and has long been studied to be incorporated with machine intelligence argued to make machines even more intelligent. This paper aims to contribute to this field of study by enabling machines to recognize emotion from facial electromyogram (EMG) signals. This includes a compilation of the groups attempt to recognize basic facial expressions namely happy, angry, and sad through the use of EMG signals from facial muscles. The group extracted features from the three EMG signals from the face of two human subjects, a male and a female, and analyzed these features to serve as feature templates. Using a minimum-distance classifier, recognition rates exceeded the target accuracy - 85 percent - reaching 94.44 percent for both the male and female subjects.

A nonlinear image technique for characterization of the optical nonlinearities is used to investigate the solid semiconductor ZnSe at 600 nm. The method based on a 4f nonlinear image technique with a phase object is used to obtain the diffraction pattern of the nonlinear filter in solid ZnSe located at the Fourier plane by a CCD camera. The nonlinear absorption coefficient and nonlinear refraction index were both obtained by fitting the nonlinear image. Good agreement between the experiment data and the simulated result are obtained indicating a sensitive and powerful method for nonlinear optical measurements.

Most elderly people monitoring systems include the detection of abnormal situations, in particular distress situations, as one of their main goals. In order to reach this objective, many solutions end up combining several modalities such as video tracking, fall detection and sound recognition, so as to increase the reliability of the system. In this work we focus on daily sound recognition as it is one of the most promising modalities. We make a comparison of two standard methods used for speaker recognition and verification: Gaussian Mixture Models (GMM) and Support Vector Machines (SVM). Experimental results show the effectiveness of the combination of GMM and SVM in order to classify sound data sequences when compared to systems based on GMM.

The simulation of uncertainties due to renewable and load forecasts is becoming more and more important in security assessment analyses performed on large scale networks. This paper presents an efficient method to account for forecast uncertainties in probabilistic power flow (PPF) applications, based on the combination of PCA (Principal Component Analysis) and PEM (point Estimate Method), in the context of operational planning studies applied to large scale AC grids. The benchmark against the conventional PEM method applied to large power system models shows that the proposed method assures high speed up ratios, preserving a good accuracy of the marginal distributions of the outputs.

Filtration is one of core elements of analysis tools in geometrical metrology. Filtration techniques are progressing along with the advancement of manufacturing technology. The modern filtration techniques are requested to be robust against outliers, applicable to surfaces with complex shape and reliable in whole range of measurement data. A comparison study is conducted to evaluate commonly used robust filtration techniques in the field of geometrical metrology, including the two-stage Gaussian filter, the robust Gaussian regression filter, the robust spline filter and morphological filters. They are compared in terms of four aspects: functionality, mathematical computation, capability and characterization parameters. As a result, it offers metrologists an instruction to choose the appropriate filter for various applications.

Video event detection (VED) is a challenging task especially with a large variety of objects in the environment. Even though there exist numerous algorithms for event detection, most of them are unsuitable for a typical consumer purpose. A hybrid method for detecting and identifying the moving objects by their color and spatial information is presented in this paper. In tracking multiple moving objects, the system makes use of motion of changed regions. In this approach, first, the object detector will look for the existence of objects that have already been registered. Then the control is passed on to an event detector which will wait for an event to happen which can be object placement or object removal. The object detector becomes active only if any event is detected. Simple training procedure using a single color camera in HSV color space makes it a consumer application. The proposed model has proved to be robust in various indoor environments and different types of background scenes. The experimental results prove the feasibility of the proposed method.

Nowadays, continuously accessing Internet services is vital for the most of people. However, due to Denial of Service (DoS) and its severe type ‘Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS), online services becomes unavailable to users in sometimes. Rather than DDoS is dangerous and has serious impact on the Internet consumers, there are multiple types of that attack such Slowrise, ping of death and UDP, ICMP, SYN flood, etc. In this paper, the effect of HTTP and SYN flood attack on the most recent and widely used web servers is studied and evaluated. Systematic performance analysis is performed on Internet Information Service 10.0 (IIS 10.0) on Windows server 2016 and Apache 2 on Linux Ubuntu 16.04 Long Term Support (LTS) server. Furthermore, the key metrics of the performance are average response time, average CPU usage and standard deviation as a responsiveness, efficiency and stability of the web servers. The results show that the IIS10.0 outperformed Apache2 web server in efficiency and responsiveness during HTTP flood attack. However, Apache2 web server achievement was more responsive and performed more stability with SYN flood attack.

Identifying all designs satisfying a set of constraints is an important part of the engineering design process. With physics-based simulation codes, evaluating the constraints becomes considerable expensive. Active learning can provide an elegant approach to efficiently characterize the feasible region, i.e., the set of feasible designs. Although active learning strategies have been proposed for this task, most of them are dealing with adding just one sample per iteration as opposed to selecting multiple samples per iteration, also known as batch active learning. While this is efficient with respect to the amount of information gained per iteration, it neglects available computation resources. One of the complex processes in spectral analysis of surface waves (SASW) data analysis is the inversion procedure. An initial soil profile needs to be assumed at the beginning of the inversion analysis, which involves calculating the theoretical dispersion curve. If the assumption of the starting soil profile model is not reasonably close, the iteration process might lead to nonconvergence or take too long to be converged. Automating the inversion procedure will allow us to evaluate the soil stiffness properties conveniently and rapidly by means of the SASW method. Multilayer perceptron (MLP), random forest (RF), support vector regression (SVR), and linear regression (LR) algorithms were implemented in order to automate the inversion. For this purpose, the dispersion curves obtained from 50 field tests were used as input data for all of the algorithms. The results illustrated that SVR algorithms could potentially be used to estimate the shear wave velocity of soil.

Artificial Intelligence is everywhere today. But unfortunately, Agriculture has not been able to get that much attention from Artificial Intelligence (AI). A lack of automation persists in the agriculture industry. For over many years, farmers and crop field owners have been facing a problem of trespassing of wild animals for which no feasible solution has been provided. Installing a fence or barrier like structure is neither feasible nor efficient due to the large areas covered by the fields. Also, if the landowner can afford to build a wall or barrier, government policies for building walls are often very irksome. The paper intends to give a simple intelligible solution to the problem with Automated Crop Field Surveillance using Computer Vision. The solution will significantly reduce the cost of crops destroyed annually and completely automate the security of the field.
