- Στην ελληνική μυθολογία με το όνομα Περίφας ή Περίφαντας είναι γνωστά τα παρακάτω 5 πρόσωπα: 1.
* Αυτόχθονας Αθηναίος, ο οποίος ανακηρύχθηκε βασιλιάς των Αθηνών πριν από τον Κέκροπα, εξαιτίας της δικαιοσύνης του, της σωφροσύνης του και των άλλων αρετών του. Ο Περίφας ωστόσο έκανε το λάθος να τιμά πολύ περισσότερο από τους άλλους θεούς τον Απόλλωνα, κάτι που προκάλεσε τη ζήλια και τον θυμό του Δία, ο οποίος θέλησε να χτυπήσει με κεραυνό αυτόν και την οικογένειά του. Με την επέμβαση όμως του Απόλλωνα ο Περίφας και ο διάδοχός του μεταμορφώθηκαν σε αετούς. Η σύζυγος του Περίφαντα μεταμορφώθηκε σύμφωνα με παράκλησή της σε θηλυκό θαλάσσιο αετό. Σύμφωνα με άλλη, αντίθετη εκδοχή, ο Περίφας μεταμορφώθηκε σε αετό μετά τον φυσικό του θάνατο, ως ανταμοιβή από τον Δία επειδή ήταν δίκαιος και σώφρων. 2.
* Λαπίθης, σύζυγος της , μαζί με την οποία απέκτησαν οκτώ παιδιά. Εγγονός αυτού του Περίφαντα ήταν ο Ιξίωνας. 3.

Το περιστατικό περιγράφεται στην Ιλιάδα (Ε 842 κ.ε.) και είναι η μοναδική περίπτωση σε έργο του Ομήρου που κάποιος θεός φονεύει έναν ήρωα με τα ίδια του τα χέρια. 4.
