This paper gives a classification of smooth projective varieties having degree 8 (resp. sectional genus 4 or 5; resp. \(\Delta\)-genus 4).- The list consists of complete intersections and varieties obtained from curves or surfaces by explicit operations (scrolls, blow-ups, double ramified coverings).
