The paper presents a unified approach to many classical urn problems by imbedding the drawings with replacement from an urn with balls of different colours in Poisson processes. The author shows that such problems can be transformed into problems on order statistics from gamma distributions. This allows to avoid complicated combinatorial reasonings.
