The principle of locality and quantum field theory on (non globally hyperbolic) curved spacetimes. (English) Zbl 0779.53052
The author seeks a formulation of quantum field theory and general relativity which emphasizes the aspects which they share and attempts to formulate a set of laws for quantum gravity which retain, as far as possible, these common features. He introduces the notion of \(F\)-locality and shows that \(F\)-locality is a property of the standard field algebra construction for globally hyperbolic spacetimes, and argue that it should be imposed as a condition on any field algebra for non globally hyperbolic spacetimes. The author has examined a number of non globally hyperbolic spacetimes for which there exists a field algebra satisfying \(F\)-locality.
