Motivation
[edit]The names of victims should be part of Wikidata even if they are not notable themselves. Midleading (talk) 13:54, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Comment @Midleading: Are we only talking about deceased victims (as in these cases of shootings) or would any victim of any crime be considered? I'm concerned that might be a privacy issue maybe? ArthurPSmith (talk) 21:01, 15 April 2022 (UTC)
- It may be used for any victim if desired and not violate their privacy. There may be cases where the victim is later found to be alive, where the victim is notable from the crime they suffered but the victim isn't murdered or cannot be confirmed to have been murdered. If there is any doubt that the use of the property disrupts their living we can always restrict the scope to the deceased on a case by case basis. It is intended to memorize them not to harm. Midleading (talk) 01:45, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
- Comment Then again same could be applied to date of death (P570) @Midleading: --Trade (talk) 20:40, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
- What solution do you propose for that? Do you mean creating the items for the victims with the only verifiable information being the name of victim and their fate (mostly just a duplicate of the item describing the crime they suffered from)? Midleading (talk) 15:19, 21 April 2022 (UTC)
- Use victim(s) (P8032) =
somevalue
with qualifer object named as (P1932) = <name>; as we do for other properties when the intended value doesn't have a wikidata item. Jheald (talk) 16:32, 17 April 2022 (UTC)- It is not a valid usage of victim(s) (P8032). I can only find one instance of the usage killing of Fabiole Camara De Campos (Q109535667). It violates property constraints. It also looks like that the victim is an unknown person named "Fabiole Camara De Campos", but actually it is not unknown. Midleading (talk) 01:12, 18 April 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose per Jheald. somevalue doesn't mean thah the victim is unknown, but the item, because there's no item. --Tinker Bell ★ ♥ 04:29, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

- Oppose I agree with the privacy issue, but I also see an issue with Wikidata not being suited for long lists (or tables) which should probably be better in some other way (such as on Commons with a table). Either there should be individual items for the victims or the data should be stored somewhere else. If the number of victims is small (as in death of Wei Zexi (Q24044961)) then victim(s) (P8032) should be used). If there are no items, simply create the items. --Hannes Röst (talk) 13:25, 18 April 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose I too agree with @Hannes Röst - BeLucky (talk) 14:07, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
