Thoughtful conversations focused on innovations and collaborations aligned with public health, equity, inclusion, and community empowerment through data modernization took the stage at AcademyHealth #hdpalooza this week. Vindell Washington, our Chief Clinical Officer and Head of Health Equity, facilitated a plenary panel with Andy Bindman, Donna Cryer, Sanjana Ravi, PhD, MPH and Dr. Abdul R Shaikh. “It’s not just talking about equity, it’s about doing something. We can’t use the same tools in the same way and expect health equity to improve,” said Vindell. Our Chief Medical and Scientific Officer Andrew Trister, MD PhD shared details on Verily’s wastewater monitoring program and how the data is leveraged to inform faster and more precise public health actions. Chief Medical & Scientific Officer advancing precision health @ Verily, an Alphabet company | ex-Apple, Gates Foundation
It was an honor to speak at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy this week during a technology showcase and policy workshop. Along with Nicole Fehrenbach and David Larsen we talked about the promise and benefits of wastewater surveillance in the US and how it requires a partnership between government, the private sector and academia. At Verily, we’re committed to this type of collaboration, as we’ve worked with several public health agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A comprehensive and coordinated network and data infrastructure will be key to facilitating the detection of public health threats across jurisdictional borders and boundaries. I am excited to see how this field evolves in building a system that services the American public and beyond. Thank you to Danielle Carnival, PhD , Paul Friedrichs and Stephanie Psaki for their inspired leadership and to Josh Glasser for the engaging program!

There is more health data than ever. But the ability of life sciences and data-generating enterprises to govern, analyze and partner on data remains a challenge, which is imperative for biomedical research and development. Data analysis platforms, like Verily Workbench, can help through the infrastructure and collaborative tools to unlock the value of multimodal health data at scale.
