23 years have passed since September 11, 2001, but we’ll never forget the bravery and courage of those first responders and others who lost their lives that day and the sacrifice and service of so many more in the years that followed. #September11

Supawna Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is located along Delaware Bay, an area threatened by sea-level rise. Due to sea-level rise and other environmental factors, this tidal marsh is sinking, losing critical habitat for American black ducks, rails, terns, and fish species like striped bass and white perch. Tidal marshes also safeguard nearby communities from flooding, acting as a buffer between people's homes and rising waters. Ducks Unlimited and its partners are working towards long-term water and habitat quality improvements that will support healthy aquatic ecosystems and resilience for local wildlife, fisheries, and coastal communities. The Refuge is an important recreational area for hunters, anglers, and birders as well, so its health is paramount for these groups to continue to enjoy all the marvels of this coastal marsh. Ducks Unlimited is working with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to conserve and restore salt marshes along the East Coast. A healthy marsh is not only vital for waterfowl and other wildlife but also our coastal communities. Check out National Geographic’s story about declining populations of the saltmarsh sparrow and the work being done to save the ecosystem on which they depend. DU New England Biologist Bri Benvenuti (previously at the USFWS) is featured for her dedication to these coastal wetlands.
