The Best Lady Gaga Movies and TV Shows Ranked and Where to Stream Them

Lady Gaga needs no introduction. The 13 time Grammy Award-winner has been named Time’s one of the 100 most influential people in the world twice, she’s sold over 170 million records worldwide and showcased her immeasurable talent onscreen too. Read on to discover where to watch the best Lady Gaga movies and TV shows streaming online in the United Kingdom.

Lady Gaga’s performances are world class, on and off-screen. Back in 2013, the actress made her big-screen debut in Machete Kills as La Camaleón alongside Sofia Vergara, Mel Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez and Cuba Gooding Jr. Though the star-studded cast action didn’t fare well at the box office, making only $17.5 million on a $20 million budget, it offered a glimpse of her exceptional acting talents in this supporting role.

Alongside this, Gaga has also made cameos as herself in films such as Muppets Most Wanted and lent her voice to series such as The Simpsons in “Lisa Goes Gaga”. Gaga went on to star in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, before she made her debut in the horror anthology series, American Horror Story. In 2015, the actress stunned fans in season 5 titled Hotel as The Countess, before returning in 2016 for Season Six, Roanoke as a special guest to play Scáthach.

These mesmerising performances were followed by her most acclaimed role as Ally in Bradley Cooper’s A Star is Born. The 2018 musical romantic drama, which was led by Cooper and Lady Gaga, earned Gaga the recognition of becoming the first woman in history to win an Academy Award for Best Actress, a Grammy for Song of the Year and Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture in one year.

The film went on to win four Grammys and grossed a staggering $436 million on a $36 million budget, a remarkable feat and without a doubt, Gaga’s greatest performance to date. Since then, Gaga has fronted the 2021 biographical crime drama House of Gucci, as Patrizia Reggiani, the matriarch of the renowned fashion family. Gaga received more nominations for her performance in this role, as the Ridley Scott film went onto gross $153 million on a $75 million budget.

One of her most anticipated roles is Gaga’s performance in the American musical psychological thriller, Joker: Folie à Deux. The sequel to 2019’s Joker, sees Gaga join the cast as Harley Quinn, Joker’s (Joaquin Phoenix) love interest in the film. After its premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, Joker: Folie à Deux has received positive reviews for its performances, musical numbers, costumes and design. It is certain to be another firm favourite amongst fans of Gaga’s work.

  • Watch All The Halloween Movies In Order: A Complete Streaming Guide For The 2024 Spooky Season

Watch All The Halloween Movies In Order: A Complete Streaming Guide For The 2024 Spooky Season

The Halloween movie franchise is one of the most iconic horror series in history. Created by John Carpenter and Debra Hill, it centres around masked serial killer Michael Myers. There have been many reboots and interpretations of the original Halloween stories over the years.

This guide includes details on the different Halloween franchise eras and streaming info on where to watch the Halloween movies in the UK.

    Origins and Early Films (1978-1989)

    • Halloween (1978)
    • Halloween II (1981)
    • Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
    • Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
    • Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)

Horror fans around the world first met Michael Myers in the original 1978 Halloween movie. Directed by John Carpenter and produced by Debra Hill, the movie starred Jamie Lee Curtis as the iconic ‘final girl’ Laurie Strode and Donald Pleasance as Dr. Loomis. It was a huge commercial success and led the way for the numerous Halloween sequels over the years.

Jamie Lee Curtis returned as Laurie Strode in Halloween II as she continued to hide from Michael Myers. Halloween III: Season of the Witch experimented with a different storyline without Michael Myers, but the film received poor reviews. For the fourth and fifth instalments, The Return of Michael Myers and The Revenge of Michael Myers, Halloween went back to its roots with a terrifying fight for survival as Michael Myers faces off against Laurie Strode’s daughter, Jamie Lloyd.

    The 1990s and Early 2000s Reboots (1995-2002)

    • Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
    • Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)
    • Halloween: Resurrection (2002)

The 1990s brought a new twist to the Halloween movies with the release of Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers. Fans were divided about a new storyline, titled the ‘Thorn Cult’, which was introduced to explain Michael Myers’ supernatural ability to stay alive. Donald Pleasance made his final appearance as Dr. Loomis in the movie before his death.

In 1998, Jamie Lee Curtis returned as Laurie Strode in Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, who is now a headmistress of a boarding school and hiding from Michael Myers. The film picks up after the events of Halloween II, ignoring the storylines of the previously released films.

Halloween: Resurrection introduces a modern spin to the series with a reality TV show concept where contestants spend the night in Michael’s childhood home. The movie was panned and is considered the end of the original Halloween timeline.

    Rob Zombie’s Reboots (2007-2009)

    • Halloween (2007)
    • Halloween II (2009)

Rob Zombie rebooted the Halloween franchise, directing two movies: Halloween (2007) and Halloween II (2009). They explored Michael Myers’ origin story, diving deep into his childhood and psychological state. Rob Zombie’s reimagining brought a fresh perspective to the franchise, but received mixed reviews amongst fans.

Modern Era and Blumhouse Revival (2018-present)

    • Halloween (2018)
    • Halloween Kills (2021)
    • Halloween Ends (2022)

Renowned horror movie production company Blumhouse Productions got involved with the Halloween franchise in 2018. Halloween, directed by David Gordon Green, is a direct continuation of the original 1978 movie. Jamie Lee Curtis returns as Laurie Strode, with the film being a commercial and critical success. Laurie continues to deal with the trauma and lasting impact of Michael’s terror in Blumhouse’s Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends.

  • Every Rosemary’s Baby Movie and TV Show, In Order - and How to Stream Them

Every Rosemary’s Baby Movie and TV Show, In Order - and How to Stream Them

Apartment 7A takes us back to New York in the 1960s, and to a plush old apartment building with some seriously creepy vibes. There’s a young performer’s stage career hanging in the balance, a kindly old couple whose offer of help might just come with some rather onerous conditions, and a steadily mounting sense of dread. Yes, Apartment 7A is a prequel to the 1968 psychological horror classic Rosemary’s Baby, adding to the TV and film canon spinning off from the movie. Find out how to watch the Rosemary Baby’s franchise in order with our streaming guide, below.

Although Apartment 7A is set before the events of Rosemary’s Baby, and so a chronological narrative binge would start with Natalie Erika James’s 2024 film, the aesthetic and tone of the story are very much taken from what director Roman Polanski created in 1968, so we recommend watching in order of release and beginning with Rosemary’s Baby itself. Mia Farrow is Rosemary Woodhouse, who with her aspiring actor husband Guy moves into the grand old Bamford apartment block. There, the Woodhouses are befriended by the elderly couple in a neighbouring flat - soon, Guy’s career takes off, Rosemary is pregnant and all is well. But Rosemary starts to see and hear things that make her think the devil is on her tail…

A masterpiece of tension and suggestion, the film works as a comment on the never-ending struggle for domestic perfection, the alienating physical experience of pregnancy and the way women expecting a child have to deal with all sorts of people interfering in the process - but it’s mainly just a good old-fashioned horror thriller, and viewers wanted to know what happened next. They got an answer in 1976 in the straightforwardly titled Look What’s Happened to Rosemary’s Baby.

This TV movie follows the eight-year-old, and then 20 years later, the adult version of the baby Rosemary has at the end of the first film. It is the story of someone trying, through various deathly misadventures, to escape his destiny as a child of Satan - but the coven has operatives everywhere. Ruth Gordon, who memorably played the sinister Minnie Castavet in the original, reprises her role.

Then there’s the TV remake of Rosemary’s Baby, shown across two episodes in 2014. Transplanting the story from New York to Paris and making numerous small changes, it nevertheless tells essentially the same tale: Zoe Saldana is Rosemary, who comes to suspect that something is wrong with her unborn baby, her husband (Patrick J Adams) and their new friends the Castevets (Carole Bouquet and Jason Isaacs). It’s a more overtly horror-themed, gory take.

And so to Apartment 7A. If you’ve followed our advice and recently watched the original Rosemary’s Baby, you’ll be filled with intrigued dread when you learn that Julia Garner plays a woman called Terry Gionoffrio, a minor but memorable character in the first movie. As she recovers from a nasty ankle injury and moves into a nice new flat, a new kind of terror awaits.

  • Every Joker Movie Appearance In Order: Heath Ledger, Jack Nicholson, Joaquin Phoenix & More

Every Joker Movie Appearance In Order: Heath Ledger, Jack Nicholson, Joaquin Phoenix & More

One of the most infamous Batman villains of all time, The Joker has been played by legendary Hollywood actors in past years. Here are all of the Joker movie appearances in order of release, and where you can watch the movies in the UK.

    Joker Movies In Order

The Joker has featured in Batman movies since the ‘80s. Jack Nicholson, Jared Leto, Barry Keoghan have all taken on the iconic role of the Joker, in addition to the Academy Award winning performances from Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix.

    Batman (1989)

Jack Nicholson stars as Jack Napier, a mob enforcer, in Batman. Things take a dark turn when Napier's mission at Axis Chemicals leaves him lying in a vat of toxic sludge. With his skin bleached white and hair turned green from the chemicals, Napier transforms into the Joker and faces off against Michael Keaton’s Batman as he wreaks havoc on Gotham City.

    The Dark Knight (2008)

The second movie in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight stars Heath Ledger as the Joker alongside Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader.

    Suicide Squad (2016)

Jared Leto’s first appearance as the Joker is in Suicide Squad. Following DC Comics’ anti-hero team of imprisoned supervillains, Leto appears opposite Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

    Joker (2019)

Joker is the first movie to focus solely on Joker’s origin story. Joaquin Phoenix delivers a knock-out performance as Arthur Fleck, a failing stand-up comedian who goes insane.

    Birds Of Prey (2020)

While Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is the centre of attention in Birds Of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn), Jared Leto reprises his role as the Joker and Harley’s love interest in this Suicide Squad spin-off.

    Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021)

Leto’s appearance in Zack Snyder's Justice League is small but impactful as a member of the resistance in the Knightmare future. Although the Joker was not originally planned to appear in Justice League, Snyder chose to alter the script and include Leto.

    The Batman (2022)

While The Batman focuses on Batman’s rivalry with DC Comics villain The Riddler, Barry Keoghan makes a cameo appearance as the Joker (credited as an ‘Unseen Arkham Prisoner’). Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz and Paul Dano star in The Batman, which also introduces Colin Farrell as The Penguin ahead of the The Penguin spin-off series premiere.

    Joker: Folie À Deux (2024)

A sequel to 2019’s Joker, Joker: Folie à Deux follows Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck and his relationship with the equally insane Harley Quinn (played by Lady Gaga). This musical melodrama is a twisted love story based on the comic book classic.

    Joker TV Show Appearances

A special shout out goes to the 1966 TV series Batman, featuring Cesar Romero as the first on-screen appearance of the Joker. The show ran for three seasons, with Adam West as the titular Batman.

How (and Where) to Watch All the Carrie Movies in Order

When Stephen King’s 1974 novel Carrie was adapted into a horror film in 1976, it achieved instant iconic status. From the deranged, fanatic energy of Carrie’s religious mother, to the classic scene of a blood-covered prom queen wreaking havoc at the school dance, the film succeeded in capturing the very real feelings of shame from teenage bullying and pain from a twisted parent-child relationship, and mixing them with the horror of unbridled vengeance.

Find out how to watch Carrie and the other Carrie movies, and see where you can stream each instalment below!

How to watch the Carrie movies in order

Director Brian De Palma and screenwriter Lawrence D Cohen adapted Stephen King's book into 1976’s film Carrie. The film stars Sissy Spacek as Carrie White, an awkward and unpopular teenager with latent telekinetic abilities who is viciously bullied at school after she mistakenly believes she is dying after she first gets her period. Piper Laurie plays her deranged religious mother, Margaret, who sees everything through the lens of sin and repentance. When Carrie is invited to the prom under false pretences, her powers are unleashed to devastating effect as she takes vengeance on her peers.

After De Palma’s iconic adaptation, no director dared approach the material for another 20 years. However, in 1999, director Katt Shea made a sequel focusing on Carrie’s half-sister, Rachel. Rachel also possesses telekinetic powers that she winds up using for bloody revenge.

The following two instalments are remakes of the original film rather than sequels. If you are trying to watch the Carrie movies in order, the best approach would therefore be in order of release.

In 2002, Bryan Fuller (known for creating the series Hannibal) wrote a retelling of King’s novel Carrie, with David Carson as director. While the film was not well received, critics and fans praised Angela Bettis' performance as Carrie.

In 2013, director Kimberly Peirce (known for Boys Don’t Cry) made her attempt at retelling the story. While the film was slightly better received than Fuller’s, and was meant to adapt the story for a more modern audience, critics and fans widely agree that the original still reigns supreme as the ultimate Carrie film for the ages.

  • How to Watch the Scream Franchise in Order

How to Watch the Scream Franchise in Order

The Scream movies started out as the 1990s’ answer to traditional horror films. With its mix of comedic and self-ironic nods to classic horror tropes, to its spectacular kills and the iconic Ghostface mask, the Scream franchise solidified itself as an enduring addition to horror capable of reinventing itself as often as the Ghostface killer.

Whether you’re gearing up for the Halloween season, or just want a cosy evening full of both nostalgic and new jump scares, the Scream franchise makes for perfect rewatching in any season. Check out the JustWatch guide to how to watch the Scream franchise in order, and find out where you can stream each instalment below!

How to watch the Scream franchise in order of release

Iconic horror director Wes Craven’s first Scream splattered across cinema screens in 1996, delighting and terrifying teens and adults across the globe with its tongue-in-cheek approach mixed with proper slasher elements. The film introduced audiences to ultimate survivors Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), and Dewey Riley (David Arquette), who are time and again terrorised by a knife-wielding serial killer wearing a Ghostface mask in the fictional small town of Woodsboro, California.

The 1997 sequel was even better received, as it doubled down on the self-referential irony and ratcheted up the over-the-top gore. Two more sequels directed by Craven continuing the story were released between 2000 and 2011. Wes Craven sadly passed away in 2015, and it wasn’t until 2022 that a new directorial team (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett) braved reviving the film series.

However, between 2015 and 2019 not all was quiet on the Scream front. A standalone television series was adapted and ran for three seasons. The series took place in Lakewood, Colorado, not the classic Woodsboro location, and follows the story of a new group of teens who are stalked by a masked killer. The series also made the controversial decision to change the classic Ghostface mask.

In 2022 directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett released their first Scream film, featuring a mix of the old guard (Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, and David Arquette as Dewey Riley) with a new generation (Jenna Ortega as Tara Carpenter, Melissa Barrera as Sam Carpenter, and others). In 2023, the new directorial duo released the next instalment, Scream VI, which brought the young protagonists and classic survivors to an all-new setting: New York City.

  • 10 Movies and TV Shows Like The Penguin (And Where to Stream Them)

10 Movies and TV Shows Like The Penguin (And Where to Stream Them)

After Matt Reeves’ The Batman introduced audiences to the awkward but ambitious gangster Oz Cobb in 2022, it was only a short matter of time before HBO announced a spinoff series exploring the character. Rendered completely unrecognisable due to layers of prosthetics and a thick New York City accent, Cobb (aka The Penguin) is played by Irish actor Colin Farrell, who reprised the role in the Penguin series released in the UK on Sky Atlantic and NOW on September 20, 2024.

The series takes a gritty, realistic look at the rise of one of Batman’s most notorious villains, The Penguin, as he vies for mob power against the psychotic Sofia Falcone in Gotham. The series takes after several iconic gangster films, and shares many compelling elements with a variety of movies and TV shows across genres. Take a look at our list of movies and TV series like The Penguin, and find out where you can watch them below!

    The Batman - Movie

The Batman from 2022 takes place in the same universe as Max’s The Penguin. It is the first time Colin Farrell’s iteration of the character appears on screen, and acts as an introduction to Matt Reeves’ vision of the Batman. The film’s dark and realistic tone transfers perfectly into The Penguin series — on which Reeves acted as a writing and creative supervisor — and takes place one week after the events of The Batman.

    The Sopranos - TV Series

The Penguin is nothing if not a gangster series, and what better modern gangster series is there than HBO’s iconic The Sopranos? Starring James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano, the series follows Tony’s reign as a New Jersey mob boss trying to balance his family life with his illicit work activities — all while attending therapy for an anxiety disorder. In addition, like Tony Soprano, Oz Cobb has a painful relationship with his mother that dominates much of his psychology.

    Luke Cage - TV Series

This Marvel TV series is part of their collaboration with Netflix that includes fellow superhero ‘Defenders’ Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist, in addition to The Punisher. Luke Cage is a super strong vigilante with bulletproof skin who uses his powers to protect the inhabitants of Harlem. The first season of Luke Cage is especially similar to The Penguin, as much of it revolves around the Paradise nightclub (similar to the Iceberg lounge) where the gangster Cornell ‘Cottonmouth’ Stokes (Mahershala Ali) runs the show.

    Gotham - TV Series

Warner Bros Television’s DC TV series Gotham ran between 2014 and 2019. The series also takes place within the Batman universe, focusing on a young Detective Gordon as he takes on his first cases at the Gotham Police Department. While the series is structured somewhat like a procedural, the settings and characters do vary throughout the seasons. Oswald Cobblepot also features throughout as a low-level gangster rising through the ranks who causes problems for Gordon. While the series’ tone is much less gritty and realistic than The Penguin, if you love all things Batman and want to see another iteration of the Penguin (played by a sly Robin Lord Taylor), make sure to check out Gotham.

    Goodfellas - Movie

Delving back into the purely organised crime side of The Penguin, Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas is a must-watch for any fan of the genre. The iconic gangster film released in 1990 stars Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, and Joe Pesci as three friends and associates trying to keep their heads above water as they navigate the mob scene in 1970s New York City. As one of the most influential films in the mob crime genre, Goodfellas had a huge influence on The Penguin, including on plot structure, character development, and the overall visual aesthetic.

    Peaky Blinders - TV Series

Continuing with the gangster theme, Peaky Blinders is one of the best in the television genre. With six seasons airing from 2013 to 2022, Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders stars Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, the leader of the Peaky Blinders street gang. His ambition drives him to seek ever more power, starting in Birmingham in 1919 after the first World War through to the end of 1933. Although it's a period crime drama, its storytelling, gritty characters, graphic violence, and political intrigue make it a compelling watch for any fan of The Penguin.

    Griselda - TV Series

Despite most of the entries on this list selling the idea that only men can be vicious mob bosses, they’d be given a run for their money by Griselda. This 2024 Netflix series starring Sofia Vergara is based on the true story of Griselda Blanco, an infamous Colombian drug lord who dominated the narcotrafficking scene in Miami in the 1980s. This fast-paced, high-budget series features an Emmy-nominated performance by Vergara and explores the consequences of seeking power at all costs.

    Gomorrah - TV Series

This Italian crime drama series ran for five seasons between 2014 and 2021. Based on investigative journalist Roberto Saviano’s novel of the same name, the fictional series follows the power struggle that breaks out in the Camorra criminal organisation in Naples between the young guard, the old guard, and their rivals. This series, above all others, seeks to destroy any attempt to glorify the mob and highlights the real-life results of organised crime’s chronic grip on a whole city — and even a country.

    The Dark Knight - Movie

Diving back into Batman lore, 2008’s The Dark Knight is perhaps the most beloved of all Batman movies. Although the film features another iconic Batman villain, The Joker (played by Heath Ledger), Christopher Nolan’s film succeeded in bringing a realistic feel to the franchise that had previously been depicted in mostly campy style. If you’re in the mood for an excellent Batman film featuring brilliant performances, unhinged violence, and gritty drama, The Dark Knight is the film for you.

    Narcos - TV Series

Narcos is a brilliant Spanish-language Netflix series that spanned three seasons airing between 2015 and 2017. Like Griselda, the series focuses on a notorious real-life Colombian drug lord, Pablo Escobar. As the leader of the Medellín Cartel, Escobar dominated the drug trade in the 1980s to the early ‘90s, and the series follows his rise to power even as he plays an increasingly dangerous game of cat and mouse with the CIA. Like The Penguin, Narcos focuses on the complex character of the mob boss and the consequences of their actions.

  • The 10 Best Colin Farrell Movies, Ranked - and How to Stream Them

The 10 Best Colin Farrell Movies, Ranked - and How to Stream Them

Colin Farrell could have got by on his matinee-idol looks, churning out action movies and romantic comedies and enjoying a pleasantly lucrative cinema career. Actors like that tend to toss in the odd arthouse hit or experimental cameo role to see off accusations of typecasting. In the case of Colin Farrell, the interesting films have gradually replaced the mainstream ones, but he has a knack for starring in boundary-pushing movies that still do well at the box office. See below for our pick of the ten best Colin Farrell films, and where to stream them.

Colin Farrell’s best early work was in collaboration with the director Joel Schumacher. In Tigerland, Farrell is a man of contrasts as an anti-war protestor who is drafted to fight in Vietnam and finds, at the training camp that gives the film its name, that he is a gifted soldier and leader of men. Farrell and Schumacher reunited for Phone Booth, a high-concept thriller that relies on Farrell constantly being on screen as an adulterous man threatened by an unseen sniper. In between those, Farrell cemented his Hollywood status with a crucial supporting role in Steven Spielberg’s Minority Report.

Now in the big time, Farrell took a while to find his rhythm as a proper film star: the blockbusters he appeared in during the early 2000s are hit and miss. Signs of a more interesting actor started to emerge in Oliver Stone’s historical epic Alexander, and when Farrell took a lead role in provocative romantic drama The New World, directed by arthouse legend Terrence Malick, as a colonial settler helping to establish Jamestown, Virginia. Then he shone in Michael Mann’s successful reboot of the cult TV series Miami Vice, before finding the director with whom Farrell would do his best work: Martin McDonagh.

McDonagh’s first movie was In Bruges, a fantastic thriller soaked in the blackest comedy. As a hitman riven with guilt at a job gone wrong, Farrell gives his definitive performance: funny and sexy when required, but with a dark vulnerability. Those qualities had been present before but the acclaim for In Bruges crystallised what sort of actor Farrell could be - he’s never looked back.

Collaborations with daring Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos were fruitful, notably The Lobster, in which Farrell’s alpha-male urges are curbed entirely as he plays a cuckolded man sent to a hotel where singletons are forced to pair up. Farrell also stuck with Martin McDonagh and In Bruges co-star Brendan Gleeson, scoring a huge critical hit with the deceptively simple comedy The Banshees of Inisherin, with Farrell as a naive man who cannot understand why his best friend has tired of him.

Even his superhero movies are a cut above: Colin Farrell is now starring in the TV series The Penguin, having revealed the damaged man inside the Gotham City villain in the 2022 movie The Batman.

Where to watch the best Colin Farrell movies online

As The Penguin reaches the small screen, you’ll want to stream The Batman to remind yourself of how Farrell got started in the role. For those wanting to find out where to watch the other movies on our list of Colin Farrell’s ten best, see below.

How to Watch All The Mummy Movies in Order

The Mummy franchise kicked off in 1999 and succeeded in becoming a global phenomenon in the adventure-horror genre. The films captured the imaginations of lovers of ancient Egypt, horror, and good old fashioned adventure movies all in one. Check out the JustWatch guide below to find out how to stream all of The Mummy movies in order!

Universal Pictures’ original Mummy franchise started in 1932 and went until 1955. With a total of six instalments, the franchise focused more on the horror aspect of Mummy reanimation and revenge. In 1999, director Stephen Sommers released his remake of The Mummy starring Brandon Fraser and Rachel Weisz that would bring the franchise back to life. Two direct sequels were released between 2001 and 2008 before Universal decided to shift course and focus on the spinoff prequel films. There are five prequels in total (four of which were direct-to-video) that focus on The Scorpion King’s origin story, released between 2002 and 2018.

    Universal Pictures’ The Mummy

Between 1932 and 1955, Universal released their horror film series The Mummy. Check out all of the instalments in release and chronological order:

    Stephen Sommers’ The Mummy

Stephen Sommers’ reboot of the franchise is widely considered to be the best and most definitive series of The Mummy films. Between 1999 and 2008, three The Mummy films were released that reanimated the franchise and gave it a more adventure oriented feel than the original horror films. Check out all the Mummy films in order of release (and chronological order) below:

    The Scorpion King Spinoff Prequels

Between 2002 and 2018, Universal released five spinoff films that went back in time and focused on the life of The Scorpion King, the main antagonist of The Mummy Returns. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson stars in the first instalment as Mathayus (aka the Scorpion King). While the first film was released in cinemas, the following four were released direct-to-video.

    Tom Cruise’s The Mummy

In 2017, director Alex Kurtzman resurrected the franchise for Universal with a film starring Tom Cruise. The film was intended to set up Universal's so-called Dark Universe project. However, the film did not perform adequately with fans, critics, or at the box office so future instalments were scrapped.

  • How to Watch All The Exorcist Movies in Order

How to Watch All The Exorcist Movies in Order

Since its release in 1973, The Exorcist has become widely recognised as one of the most iconic films in horror history. The darkly foreboding storytelling, blasphemous nature of its content, and shocking moments of demonic evil turned heads (so to speak) when it was first released and continues to inspire filmmakers to this day.

Check out the JustWatch guide to all of The Exorcist films in order and find out how (and where) you can stream them below!

The first Exorcist film was based on William Peter Blatty’s 1971 novel of the same name. It introduced audiences to the 12-year old Regan MacNeil, played by Linda Blair, who becomes possessed by an ancient Assyrian demon known as Pazuzu. Doctors and psychologists are baffled by the case, and in her desperation Regan’s mother turns to two Catholic priests — Father Damien Karras and Father Lankester Merrin — to help exorcise the demon.

Watch The Exorcist Movies in Order of Release

Since the original film’s release in 1973, there have been an additional five instalments and a sixth on the way with 2025’s The Exorcist: Deceiver. Here’s how to watch all of The Exorcist movies in order of release:

Watch The Exorcist Movies in Chronological Order

If you want to watch all of The Exorcist movies following the series of events starting from the demon Pazuzu’s original discovery, check out the list below to find out how to watch all the movies in chronological order. The first film, 2005’s Dominion, is an alternate prequel to 2004’s The Beginning. Dominion was originally commissioned with Paul Schrader at the helm, but the studio was dissatisfied with the end product and rehashed it with Renny Harlin to create Beginning. However, after Beginning performed poorly at the box office, the studio later released Schrader’s cut.

The Exorcist II was released as a direct sequel to the original, and takes place four years after the events of The Exorcist. However, the film was poorly received so its sequel, Exorcist III, was made without much allusion to the second film, and could therefore be watched directly after the first. Exorcist III takes place some 15 years after the events of the original Exorcist.

In 2023, director David Gordon Green released The Exorcist: Believer, which he maintained was a direct sequel to the original Exorcist. The story takes place some 30 years after the original, and is expected to spawn a trilogy. The second instalment, The Exorcist: Deceiver, is set to be released in 2025.

And now, some 36 years later, Keaton and Burton are teaming up again to make a sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, set to premiere on September 6, 2024.

In anticipation of Keaton’s return to his most iconic role, now is the perfect time to check out some of his best performances to date, from his stint as Batman to his role in the Oscar-winning Birdman. Take a look at the best Michael Keaton movies, and find out how and where you can stream them all below!

    Beetlejuice

Tim Burton’s iconic dark comedy from 1988 follows the story of a ghost couple whose afterlives are disrupted by a noisy living family who have moved into their house. Desperate to get rid of them, the couple (played by Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin) hire a rambunctious poltergeist named Beetlejuice (Keaton) to drive them out. Other cast members include Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, and Jeffrey Jones.

    Birdman

Michael Keaton was nominated for Best Actor in 2015 for his role in Birdman, in which he plays a washed-up Hollywood actor who used to play superheroes in films. In order to try and resuscitate his career and prove he’s a real artist, he decides to take on an ambitious role in a Broadway production. The film, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, also stars Edward Norton, Emma Stone, and Naomi Watts, among others.

    Jackie Brown

This 1997 Quentin Tarantino crime drama is the director’s one and only adapted screenplay, based on Rum Punch by Elmore Leonard. The film tells the story of Jackie Brown (Pam Grier), a flight attendant with a criminal past. When she gets caught by law enforcement for smuggling, she has to turn into an informant while trying to survive to tell the tale. Michael Keaton plays Ray Nicolette, one of the main ATF agents working with the police.

    Spotlight

Spotlight won the Best Picture Oscar at the 2016 Academy Awards for its depiction of the true story of the The Boston Globe journalists who investigated and broke the story of widespread and rampant sexual abuse being covered up by the Catholic Church. Michael Keaton plays Walter ‘Robby’ Robinson, the head of the team of investigative journalists.

    Batman

In 1989, Michael Keaton and director Tim Burton teamed up again after Beetlejuice to make a very different movie: Batman. With Keaton in the starring role as Bruce Wayne (aka Batman), the film is one of the better Batman films to come from the late 80s/early 90s phases, and sees Batman take on Jack Nicholson's iconic Joker.

    Pacific Heights

John Schlesinger’s 1990 psychological thriller Pacific Heights stars Michael Keaton as a malicious con artist who moves into a San Francisco couple’s newly bought housing complex and begins to wreak havoc on their lives. The film demonstrates Keaton’s more deranged side, allowing him to experiment with a darker role. Pacific Heights also stars Melanie Griffith and Matthew Modine.

    Spider-Man: Homecoming

2017’s Spider-Man addition, Homecoming, stars Tom Holland in the role of the webslinger, and Michael Keaton as the villain Adrian Toomes (aka Vulture). After Spider-Man returns home from fighting alongside the Avengers, he, under the tutelage of Tony Star (aka Iron Man) continues to hone his skills as the Spider-Man — all of which is put to the test when the evil Vulture comes on the scene.

    The Paper

Ron Howard’s 1994 comedy-drama The Paper sees Michael Keaton return to the newsroom as a journalist hot on the story of a police cover-up after two businessmen were found murdered. Starring Glenn Close, Marisa Tomei, Randy Quaid, and Robert Duvall, The Paper goes through the fast-paced 24 hours before the story breaks.

    Knox Goes Away

In this 2024 film, Michael Keaton takes on the role of director in addition to playing the main character. The film sees him play an ex contract killer who is diagnosed with rapidly deteriorating dementia. With limited time, he takes the opportunity to redeem himself when his desperate and estranged son shows up on his doorstep looking for help.

    Night Shift

This 1982 comedy directed by Ron Howard first put Michael Keaton on the map as a comedic actor. The film stars Keaton and Henry Winkler as two night shift employees at the morgue. Keaton’s Bill is always finding ways to make some quick cash, and he convinces Winkler’s Chuck to convert the morgue into a brothel at night in order to also help out Belinda, Chuck’s sex worker neighbor.

The first film, Tim Burton’s 2001 remake of the first Planet of the Apes, is a standalone story, while Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver’s following four films reboot the series.

How to Watch the Planet of the Apes in Chronological Order

If you’re keen to watch the Planet of the Apes movies in chronological order, we recommend starting with 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Officially, it is a prequel/origin story for Caesar (the chimp who leads the original rebellion against the humans), and leads into Dawn, War, and finally Kingdom (some 300 years later). 10 TV Shows Like Squid Game (and Where to Watch Them)

Netflix’s spectacular South Korean series Squid Game dominated screens around the world in 2021, becoming the platform’s most-watched TV show to date. With its themes of class warfare, violence, and emotional drama, the first season of Squid Game united audiences around the world in cheering on Lee Jung-jae’s Seong Gi-hun as he barely made it through the deadly game show — only to sign up for more.

With Netflix finally releasing the highly anticipated second season of Squid Game on December 26, 2024, there’s still some time to kill (so to speak) before we can feast our eyes on the next chapter. But if you’re looking for other TV shows like Squid Game to watch in the meantime, check out our selection and find out where to stream them all below!

    Squid Game: The Challenge

Squid Game: The Challenge is a 2023 reality competition series inspired by the fictional Netflix show. Also featuring 456 players, The Challenge takes competitors through many similar games to Squid Game — although fortunately it doesn’t eliminate the players by killing them. If you’re looking for a series with high-stakes competitions that also features the same costumes and aesthetic to Squid Game, make sure to check out The Challenge.

    Alice in Borderland

This ongoing Japanese Netflix series from 2020 follows the story of Arisu, an obsessive gamer who finds himself thrown into a post-apocalyptic version of Tokyo where he and a group of others must compete in perilous games to survive. If you loved the games and high-stakes competition of Squid Game, make sure to watch Alice in Borderland.

    3%

3% is a Brazilian Netflix series spanning four seasons that aired between 2016 and 2019. The series takes place in an unspecified near future in Brazil, where impoverished young people from the “Inland” are recruited to compete in something called “The Process”. If they succeed in “The Process”, they are allowed to live in the wealthy “Offshore” society — however, only 3% manage to make it through the deadly games. If you’re looking for a series like Squid Game that explores themes of class warfare in the context of a deadly competition to get to the top, make sure to watch 3%.

    The 8 Show

This 2024 South Korean Netflix series that sees eight desperate strangers recruited to participate in a competition in which they are locked in a building together; the longer they stay, the more money they make — but in order to stay longer, they have to figure out how to put more time on the clock before time runs out. To make matters worse — or more entertaining for the viewers — they find out that some participants earn more than others, fueling class conflict that causes the competitors to turn against each other.

If you want a show like Squid Game that has an even more realistic bent, social satire, and even some comedy, make sure you check out The 8 Show.

    Panic

The American teen drama unfortunately only lasted one season, but is still worth a watch if you are looking to see people compete in deadly games for a massive cash prize. Panic sees a group of recent high school graduates trying to escape their small Texas town called Carp by engaging in a yearly competition — although this year the rules have changed and they have to decide if they’re willing to put it all on the line to get out.

    Death’s Game

Death’s Game is a South Korean fantasy-thriller series from 2023. The series follows the story of Choi Yee-jae, a young man who commits suicide after failing to find a job for over seven years. But once dead, he comes face to face with Death — who is none too pleased with his choice and decides to punish him by making him reincarnate and die twelve times before sending him to hell. But as Choi begins living other lives, he realises he can cheat death by staying alive.

    Black Mirror

Black Mirror is a British anthology series created by Charlie Brooker. In many ways, Squid Game could very well be an episode of Black Mirror, because it explores similar themes of social commentary, dystopian, hyper-capitalist realities, and class warfare. While Black Mirror’s focus is often more on the role of technology’s impact on society, the series is very much in keeping with the shock value Squid Game offers, in addition to the thought-provoking social commentary.

    All of Us Are Dead

All of Us Are Dead is a South Korean 2022 zombie-horror that is also a coming-of-age story mixed together in one series. The series follows the events after a high school science teacher accidentally sets off a zombie apocalypse, causing the students trapped inside the school to have to band together to fight for their survival. Although All of Us Are Dead doesn’t feature a competition as a key plot point, the high-stakes fight for survival mixed with the escalating tensions and unclear outcomes make it quite similar in vibe to Squid Game.

    And Then There Were None

Based on Agatha Christie’s 1939 novel of the same name, And Then There Were None was adapted in 2015 by the BBC into a limited television series. The series follows the story of eight strangers who are invited to a remote island off the coast of Devon, England, where they are slowly murdered one by one as punishment for their past crimes. Although And Then There Were None doesn’t share Squid Games competition aspect, it is similar in picking apart themes of justice and injustice in the confines of a space from which there is no escape.

    Hellbound

This 2021 South Korean Netflix series incorporates dark supernatural fantasy elements into a story of injustice and power. The series takes place in a world in which a being known as an ‘angel’ begins to appear, issuing ‘decrees’ that predict the immediate or future condemnation of someone to hell. In something called a ‘demonstration’, the condemned person is destroyed by three monsters before their soul is dragged to hell. Amidst the chaos, religious groups  New Truth Society and Arrowhead fight for power while playing off of people’s fears. Like Squid Game, Hellbound deals with themes of power, injustice, and the struggle to survive.

13 Movies Like Jurassic Park And Where To Stream Them

In 2003, Steven Spielberg changed the future of science fiction action films with the cult classic, Jurassic Park. Adapted from the 1990 novel of the same name, it sees a wealthy businessman and a team of scientists create a wildlife park of previously extinct dinosaurs. Read on to discover more movies like Jurassic Park and where to stream them!

From close encounters with raptors to high adrenaline chases with a T-Rex, it’s an action-packed adventure that has earned a prestigious place in film history and became a touchstone in a thriving genre of prehistoric stories.

Similar films include Spielberg’s own, Jaws, as well as King Kong, The Meg, Godzilla and The Land That Time Forgot. Though Jaws, like The Meg, offers an alternative thrill to a dinosaur, this threat to humankind is similar to the nail biting action found in Jurassic Park.

On a shoestring budget of $9 million, Jaws grossed over $476 million at the box office and became the highest grossing film of all time and won several accolades for music and editing.

Similarly, another cult classic science-fiction film is Planet of the Apes, which revived the historic franchise in this 2001 reboot. It follows Mark Wahlberg as an astronaut Leo who crashes to a planet that is inhabited by intelligent apes, who run the planet and have humans as slaves. Directed by Tim Burton, the cast includes Tim Roth, Helena Bonham Carter and Michael Clarke Duncan. It received praise from critics and went onto gross over $350 million at the box office. The franchise went on to release four additional films following Burton’s entry.

The most successful of these was Matt Reeves’ Dawn of the Planet of the Apes from 2014, led by Andy Serkis, this instalment went onto gross over $710 million at the box office.

Another epic adventure is the King Kong reboot starring Naomi Watts, Jack Black and Adrien Brody. The 2005 instalment soared at the box office, taking over $556 million and wide-spread praise for the performances and special effects. The fascination with this giant creature has led to a full franchise of projects including Kong: Skull Island, fronted by Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman and Brie Larson.

Kong is often seen now with his other MonsterVerse frenemy Godzilla, who has appeared in his own film, Godzilla: King of the Monsters as well as Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong The New Empire. This latest instalment from 2024 grossed over $568 million at the box office as Kong and Godzilla got used to their place on earth and in the Hollow Earth, as they learn to co-exist with each other, the monsters in hollow earth and humankind. It has similar themes to Jurassic World: Dominion, the most recent instalment in the Jurassic World franchise.

Alongside this, there’s been entries into the dinosaur genre such as 65, Raptor Island and Dinosaur.

Movies To Watch Like The Avengers and Where to Stream Them

Ever since The Avengers debuted back in 2012, there’s been an appetite to see superheroes assemble on-screen. With major action sequences against an intergalactic threat, this film kick-started the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) into the billion dollar empire it is today. Read on to discover more films that are like The Avengers and where to stream them!

This is not the only time that superheroes have worked together to defeat a power-hungry villain. Before the Avengers, Marvel had a host of team-ups that saw comic book characters come to life in live-action franchises such as Fantastic Four and X-Men.

Bryan Singer was at the helm of initiating the X-Men franchise with the 2000 film of the same name, starring Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry and James Marsden. The film explores this world of conflict where super-powered mutants are shunned and hunted by humans for their unique abilities. Magneto is trying to convince two isolated mutants of a different path to survive with humankind, as Professor Xavier tries to bridge the gap between the two species to live in harmony.

Similar to The Avengers, it brings together a group of skilled mutants to use their powers to defeat the evil in their world. X-Men remains one of the highest grossing films of that year, and garnered over $293 million at the worldwide box office, before it became an entire franchise of films and TV shows.

In 2005, Tim Story’s Fantastic Four burst onto the scene fronted by Jessica Alba, Iona Gruffudd, Michael Chiklis and Chris Evans (yes, prior to Captain America he went by another superhero alter ego). The film follows the origin story of these four titular leads, who are exposed to cosmic rays on a space station and find themselves with distinctive abilities.

The film grossed over $333 million at the box office and even spawned a sequel, Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer in 2007. As there’s a reboot scheduled to be released in 2025, it’s the perfect time to revisit this super-science team.

DC have also released a host of gripping live-action superhero movies such as Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy as well as the Justice League. After a strong start with Batman Begins, Christopher Nolan crafted one of the greatest superhero movies of all time in 2008’s The Dark Knight.

Fronted by Christian Bale as the caped crusader himself, Batman is faced with his ultimate nemesis, The Joker (Heath Ledger) who is tormenting Gotham with his wicked criminal schemes. It opened to wide-spread critical and commercial success and became the highest-grossing superhero film and the fourth-highest grossing film at that time. It led to the 2012 sequel, The Dark Knight Rises, which is another excellent choice for fans of The Avengers.

Batman teams up with Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) to attempt to defeat another supervillain, Bane (Tom Hardy). The sequel went onto gross over $1 billion at the box office and became one of the highest grossing films of that time.

Outside of this, there are super films such as The Incredibles, Despicable Me 2, Spider-Man 2 and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Amongst Thieves that offer an alternative spin on the hero versus villain saga for you to enjoy.

National Treasure, like Pirates, blends supernatural elements with historical treasure hunting, action, and a balance of seriousness with humour. If you’re looking for a fun fantasy adventure that ups the mystery elements, make sure to check out National Treasure.

    Hook

Hook is an iconic fantasy adventure film from 1991 directed by Steven Spielberg and starring legendary actors Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman, Julia Roberts, and Maggie Smith, amongst others. The film takes a unique look at the story of Peter Pan, imagining what would have happened if Peter left Neverland and grew up. Now a full adult with kids of his own, Peter has forgotten who he used to be. But when his nemesis Captain Hook manages to abduct his children and hold them for ransom, Peter must find his way back to Neverland and remember who he was in order to get them back.

Hook is one of the most family-friendly entries on this list. While it shares similar themes, supernatural elements, and adventure mixed with humour and action with the Pirates films, it is far less violent and even more heartwarming. If you love Pirates’ more tender and character-based moments, don’t miss out on this absolute classic.

    The Count of Monte Cristo

Based on the captivating 19th century novel of the same name by French author Alexandre Dumas, The Count of Monte Cristo has seen many screen adaptations. Known as one of the greatest revenge stories of all time, The Count of Monte Cristo tells the tale of Edmond Dantés, a happy young merchant sailor who is about to be married when he is betrayed by his closest friend, Fernand Mondego. He finds himself arrested and imprisoned on an island, where he plots his revenge for years. After escapes and recovers a vast fortune, he begins to carry out his devastating plot.

While The Count of Monte Cristo takes a far more serious tone than Pirates of the Caribbean, if you’re in the mood for a film full of period costumes, sword fights, treasure hunting, and sweet revenge, make sure to check out The Count of Monte Cristo.

    The Mask of Zorro

The Mask of Zorro is a 1998 action-adventure film directed by Martin Campbell and starring Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins, and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The film takes place in the 19th century and follows the story of a masked vigilante, Zorro, who defends the innocent from corrupt injustice. He is caught and imprisoned by the evil governor Montero, who raises Zorro’s daughter as his own. Zorro eventually escapes some 20 years later, and teams up with his successor to exact revenge.

While Zorro is far less drunk and unruly than Jack Sparrow, the two share not only their sword-fighting skills but also their morals. While Jack might try and hide it, he is always on the side of the downtrodden, much like Zorro. Both Pirates and The Mask of Zorro also feature lots of top sword fighting, high stakes action, and a mix of drama and lighthearted humour.

    Master and Commander

Master and Commander is a 2003 period war-drama directed by Peter Weir and starring Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany. The film takes place during the Napoleonic Wars and follows the British captain Jack Aubrey’s dogged pursuit of an illusive French vessel off the coast of South America.

Although Master and Commander is far more dramatic than the Pirates of the Caribbean films, they share similar elements of sea warfare, camaraderie in the face of hardship, and in their charismatic protagonists. Check out Master and Commander if you’re in the mood for a more serious and historically realistic approach to 19th century seafaring life.

    Sherlock Holmes

Although the famous fictional detective Sherlock Holmes has had many on-screen adaptations, Guy Ritchie’s 2009 version starring Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law is the most similar in tone and style to Pirates of the Caribbean. The film takes place in late 19th century London, where Sherlock Holmes is hired to investigate a series of mysterious, seemingly supernatural deaths linked to a shadowy organisation.

Similar to Pirates of the Caribbean, Sherlock Holmes is a fast-paced actioner with a mix of mystery, drama, and plenty of lighthearted humour. While Holmes and Sparrow are two wildly different protagonists in temperament, both are strategic and think outside of the box in ways that ultimately make them come out on top.

    The Princess Bride

Last but in no way least, we have the iconic swashbuckling fantasy adventure The Princess Bride. Made in 1987, The Princess Bride is adapted by Rob Reiner from William Goldman’s novel of the same name, and stars Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, Wallace Shawn, André the Giant, Billy Crystal, Peter Falk, and others. The story takes place in a mediaeval fantasy world where a young couple are separated after the man is presumed lost at sea. When he returns alive, now as an infamous pirate, he finds she is to be married to the evil prince who seeks to use her as a pawn to start a war. In order to save her and finally be together, they must brave all manner of plots and creatures — while getting a little help from their friends.

The Princess Bride is one of the more family-friendly entries on this list — but that doesn’t stop it from having some great sword fights and epic revenge plots. Like Pirates, The Princess Bride also balances humour with action and tender hearted moments. With so many quotable lines, it’s definitely one to watch and rewatch until the end of time.

    Casino Royale

The James Bond franchise is perhaps the best known spy-thriller franchise in history. Jumping from the pages of Ian Fleming books series to screens in 1954, Bond has known many iterations, with actors like Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig taking on the iconic British spy mantle.

The 2006 version of Casino Royale featuring Daniel Craig’s Bond is one of the best 007 movies of all time. Like Mission: Impossible, the film succeeds in capturing the suspense, drama, and sweeping action of the genre while showcasing a magnetic protagonist’s impressive skills and charisma.

    The Bourne Identity

The Bourne franchise is another iconic spy film series that is sure to thrill any action movie fan. With five films starring Matt Damon as the CIA operative Jason Bourne, the franchise serves as a grittier and more dramatic addition to the genre.

The first film, 2002’s The Bourne Identity, focuses on Jason Bourne after he survives an attempt on his life, awakening with amnesia but still in possession of his top-notch spy skills. As he unravels what happened to him and who he was, he realises his enemies are still out there.

    Kingsman: The Secret Service

The Kingsman franchise got its start in 2014 with the first film, Secret Service, which introduced audiences to director Matthew Vaughn’s take on the spy genre. Featuring Taron Eggerton as Agent Gary ‘Eggsy’ Unwin, and Colin Firth as Agent Harry Hart, the Kingsman films take a more lighthearted approach than most spy films. Kingsman: Secret Service follows the story of the rough young Eggsy, who is plucked from a housing estate by the dapper agent Hart, to become a member of the secret service.

If you love Mission: Impossible, but also want a few more laughs in the mix, make sure to check out Kingsman: Secret Service and the other instalment in the franchise.

    Munich

Stepping away from franchises, Munich is a 2005 standalone film starring Eric Bana as an Israeli Mossad operative tasked with leading a mission to hunt down and assassinate those allegedly responsible for the deaths of 11 members of the Israeli Olympic team in Munich in 1972. The film is directed by celebrated director Steven Spielberg, and was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Writing for an Adapted Screenplay.

The film is historical fiction and adopts a much more serious tone than the others on this list, but if you’re looking for a spy film like Mission: Impossible that shows the darker side of being a spy, including the real-life consequences, this is the film for you.

    Ocean’s Eleven

Ocean’s Eleven is a 2001 action-heist film featuring an all-star cast including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Bernie Mac, and Andy Garcia. The film is a fast-paced, quippy actioner that follows a team assembled by Clooney’s Danny Ocean as they attempt to carry out one of the most dangerous casino heists ever attempted.

If you like Mission: Impossible for the action and stunts, but want a bit more lightness and humour, Ocean’s Eleven is the film for.

    Body of Lies

Body of Lies is a 2008 spy-action-thriller directed by Ridley Scott and starring Leonardo DiCaprio as CIA operative Roger Ferris, Russell Crowe as his boss Ed Hoffman, and Mark Strong as the head of Jordanian intelligence Hani Salaam. When Ferris catches a wild plan to lure the infamous terrorist Al-Saleem out of hiding by creating a fake terrorist organisation, he finds himself and Hoffman playing a dangerous game of truth and lies.

Like Mission: Impossible, Body of Lies features some great action sequences, and the escalating tension between the characters as the stakes get higher makes it well worth a watch.

    The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

This 2015 film stars Henry Cavill, Alicia Vikander, and Armie Hammer as CIA and KGB operatives at the height of the Cold War. When a shadowy organisation intent on destroying the tentative balance of power emerges, these operatives from both sides must put their differences aside to put a stop to it. This action-packed action-spy movie has all the hallmarks of the genre, from the high stakes espionage mission to the betrayal, twists, and thrilling action sequences. If you love Mission: Impossible, make sure to check out The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

    Argo

Like Munich, Argo is also based on a true story. The 2012 film shows a fictionalised account of how CIA operatives in 1979 were able to carry out a plan to rescue American hostages in Iran by pretending to make a Hollywood sci-fi film in that country. The film is directed by Ben Affleck, and stars Affleck, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, and others. Argo was nominated for seven Academy Awards and won three, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. Make sure to check out Argo if you love Mission: Impossible’s high stakes subterfuge and razor thin close calls.

    Jack Reacher

This 2012 film also stars Tom Cruise as the title character, this time a US Army police investigator called Jack Reacher. Reacher is brought in after an ex army sniper who is seemingly responsible for a mass shooting asks for him to be brought in to solve the case. While Jack Reacher might be more of an investigative cop film than a spy-thriller, if you love seeing Tom Cruise at work in an action role, you won’t be disappointed by Jack Reacher.

    The Italian Job

This 2003 film stars Mark Wahlberg, Edward Norton, Jason Statham, Charlize Theron, Seth Green, Mos Def, and Donald Sutherland in a high-octane heist film that takes place across several international locations, including (obviously) Italy and the United States. After a heist, one of the members of the team betrays the rest and makes off with all of the gold. The team reassembles to seek revenge and steal their money back from their old comrade. While The Italian Job is more of a heist than a spy film, it features some incredible action sequences that rival the quality of any Mission: Impossible film.

Director Ridley Scott’s iconic 1979 sci-fi horror-thriller Alien starring Sigourney Weaver has become one of the most beloved franchises in film history. Few movies have been able to evoke the same sense of escalating, claustrophobic tension like Alien, and that coupled with the terrifying xenomorph facehuggers and chestbursters has continued to inspire generations of filmmakers.

Whether you're in the mood to rewatch the Alien franchise movies, or check out some similar titles, check out these 10 movies like Alien that are available to stream online now!

    Event Horizon

Event Horizon is a 1997 classic starring Laurence Fishburne, Sam Neill, Jason Isaacs, and Kathleen Quinlan. Like Alien, the film takes place in the future (2046) on a spaceship where things start to go wrong. The crew in question is sent on a mission to retrieve the Event Horizon, a ship that went missing and whose crew has mysteriously disappeared. Once aboard the seemingly abandoned ship, they begin to realise something far more sinister is afoot.

    Life

Life is a 2017 film starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson, and Ryan Reynolds as members of a crew of scientists on the International Space Station. After they discover a new lifeform, their wonder turns to fear as it becomes clear the creature is intent on destroying them and any living creature it comes across. Like Alien, Life takes place within the tight confines of a spaceship in which a deadly alien entity grows as it hunts down the crew one by one.

    Leviathan

Levian is a 1989 sci-fi horror film starring Peter Weller, Richard Crenna, Amanda Pays, and Ernie Hudson. While Alien takes place aboard a ship in space, Leviathan’s plot unfolds in the depths of the ocean in the confines of a deep sea station. With a storm raging above and no possibility of rescue, the crew find themselves trapped with the result of a genetic experiment gone wrong. Similar to Alien, Leviathan traps its crew in a confined space with a terrifying and rapidly evolving monster.

    The Thing

Legendary horror director John Carpenter helms this 1982 classic starring Kurt Russell, Keith David, and A Wilford Brimley. The story takes place in a remote research station in the Antarctic where a team of scientists have gathered to study an alien creature found frozen in the ice after some 100,000 years. But as it unthaws, it becomes clear the creature is still alive and intent on destroying them. To make matters worse, it is capable of assuming the form of any being it kills, making anyone a suspect. Like Alien, The Thing takes place in close quarters, and the terror of the unknown is used to ratchet up the suspense to great effect.

    Pandorum

Pandorum is a 2009 film starring Dennis Quaid, Ben Foster, Norman Reedus, Antje Traue, and others. Similar to Alien, Pandorum takes place within the confines of a spaceship — this time in the year 2174. Sent on a mission to colonise a distant planet, crewmembers Payton and Bower are put into a prolonged hypersleep. But when they wake up disoriented and with amnesia, it becomes clear that they are not alone on the ship. Pandorum is full of suspense, twists, and malicious hidden monsters sure to make your skin crawl almost as much as the xenomorphs.

    Underwater

This 2020 sci-fi horror stars Kristen Stewart, Vincent Cassal, and TJ Miller as members of a crew of scientists working in the depths of the Mariana Trench at the bottom of the ocean. When a massive earthquake caused by their drilling destroys their underwater station, the crewmembers must make their way across the dark and treacherous ocean floor to find safety. Like Alien, Underwater features terrifying monsters that hunt their prey from the dark, and the tensions and stakes only ramp up throughout the film as time and oxygen run out.

    Sputnik

This 2020 Russian-language film stars Oksana Akinshina as an unorthodox doctor who is recruited to analyse a cosmonaut recently returned from space. After surviving an accident during reentry, the cosmonaut is put into quarantine where it is discovered he unknowingly brought back an alien lifeform that is living inside of him. The alien only comes out at night when the cosmonaut is asleep — and it feeds on human flesh. Although Sputnik is more of a drama than Alien, the gore, violent nature of the alien, and the symbiotic relationship between the creature and humans make this film worth a watch if you love Alien.

    The Descent

This 2005 horror starring Shauna Macdonald, Natalie Mendoza, Alex Reid, MyAnna Buring, Saskia Mulder, and Nora-Jane Noone tells the grizzly story of six friends who go on a spelunking trip into the depths of a cave in North Carolina. After they descend, they find that they are trapped, and — to make matters worse — they are not alone in the dark. If you want a film like Alien that has more gore and horror elements, make sure to check out The Descent.

    The Mist

Based on Stephen King’s novella of the same name, The Mist was adapted in 2007 by Frank Darabont into a film starring Thomas Jane, Marcia Gay Harden, Laurie Holden, and Toby Jones. It takes place in a small town in Maine which, after a violent thunderstorm, becomes enveloped in a dense mist. As the mist descends, the inhabitants of the town realise there are terrifying creatures lurking inside of it. The Mist is a tense horror film in which, like Alien, the creatures menacing the inhabitants are only briefly seen but their threat is constantly felt.

    Annihilation

Director Alex Garland’s 2018 sci-fi horror Annihilation features an all-star cast including Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Oscar Isaac, and Benedict Wong. Portman stars as a scientist sent on an expedition to a mysterious zone known as the Shimmer to find out what happened to her husband. The Shimmer was created as the result of a meteor crash, and it has the effect of warping DNA, producing mutated plant and animal life within its confines. As the mystery of what happened unravels and the members of the expedition begin to turn on each other, the borders of reality blur. If you love the escalating sense of foreboding in Alien mixed with brief moments of shocking violence, make sure to check out Annihilation.

The Best Hugh Jackman Movies Ranked and Where to Stream Them

Hugh Jackman might be best-known for his enduring role as Wolverine in the X-Men franchise, but the rest of the Australian actor’s varied and rich filmography shouldn’t be overlooked. From Les Miserables to The Greatest Showman and Eddie the Eagle, Jackman has proven the sheer breadth of his talents in these diverse roles. Read on to discover the best Hugh Jackman movies ranked and where to stream them online!

Back in 2000, as a season stage star, Hugh Jackman landed his breakout role as Logan aka the Wolverine in Bryan Singer’s X-Men, alongside Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and Halle Berry. The Marvel movie kick-started a franchise, which Jackman was at the helm of, in a trilogy, prequel trilogy and his own spin-off series of films.

Critically and commercially acclaimed, X-Men went onto gross over $296 million at the box office on a $75 million budget, as well as lead to a sequel, X2 and a X-Men: The Last Stand. After the success of this trilogy, Hugh Jackman went onto his own solo film series in X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009.

Another commercial success, garnering $373 million at the worldwide box office, this led to another two movies that culminated in the 15-rated, gritty superhero movie, Logan in 2017. It became the highest grossing movie in the trilogy and the third-highest grossing R-rated movie at the time of its release. It was also the first superhero movie to be nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Academy Awards.

Around his comic book commitments, Hugh Jackman fronted a host of romantic comedies such as Kate & Leopold, as well as starred in epics such as Baz Luhrmans’ Australia, the gripping crime thriller, Prisoners and fronted poignant dramas such as The Son.

Though Hugh Jackman’s other greatest strength, arguably, lies within musicals such as his outstanding performance in Les Miserables as Jean Valjean in 2012 and as PT Barnum in The Greatest Showman in 2017. In the big-screen adaptation of the stage play, Jackman as Valjean received widespread acclaim and won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical and was nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards.

Similarly, The Greatest Showman was a record-breaking success at the box office and in the charts. The Grammy-Award winning movie musical grossed $435 million worldwide on an $84 million budget and earned Jackman another Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor.

Alongside this, Jackman has fronted poignant dramas such as The Son, as well as lent his voice to roles in Flushed Away and Happy Feet.

Most recently, Hugh Jackman has returned to play his claw cladded mutant in Deadpool & Wolverine, alongside Ryan Reynolds. The film which finally brings the X-Men franchise into the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) opened to record-breaking success, taking $438.3 million worldwide on its opening weekend, making it the biggest opening weekend for a R-rated film at the time of writing. Jackman’s return to the franchise also earned him the title of the “longest career as a live-action Marvel character” in the Guinness Book of Records.

Understandably, some of Hugh Jackman’s best performances occur within this universe, with one of the best being Logan, which sits alongside his roles in Les Miserables and The Greatest Showman. The rest may be subjective, but the power of Australia, the haunting effect of Prisoners and the empowerment in Eddie the Eagle deserve a spot at the top of this list too.
