Why does "guff" redirect to here ? Some sort of bad joke ?

This article is really confusing

[edit]

These are just a few of the questions that spring to mind reading this article:

  1. Is "the guf" a legitimate theological concept or is it just a generic Hebrew word being used to refer to a specific "guf"?
  2. What does "guf" mean in Hebrew? The article seems to contradict itself, claiming it means "to be hollow" and also "body". It's also apparently translated as "cage", "treasury", or "birdhouse". Which is it?
  3. Is it properly known as The Guf, The Chamber of Guf, or something else? Should the word "guf" itself be translated?
  4. Is a notable concept worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia?
  5. Can the content of the article be attributed to reliable sources?

  • Here goes...
  1. It is a kabbalistic concept, eluded to in the Talmud but I cannot source it. The finer details are most likely gleaned from the Zohar.
  2. Guf can mean all those things and more depending on context, except for "birdhouse", don't know what all that's about!?!?
  3. I've heard if referred to as "HaGuf" in Hebrew, which lit means "the body". Chamber of the guf sounds like a zoharistic term.
  4. If it's sourced.
  5. It can, but I 'm not looking through the whole Talmud, MidrashI'm and Zohar now just to get all the details.

Hope that helped. frummer 11:05, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yevamot 62a

[edit]

"According to the Talmud, Yevamot 62a, is that the Messiah will not come until the Guf is emptied of all its souls. "

Is not ref. correctly. 62a makes no mention of the guf, messiah etc... it relates to the laws of marriage more then children. - wolfe — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.180.2.47 (talk) 00:12, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
