Welcome to the Talk page for the Colonial Parkway.

Humorous aside

[edit]

I'd like to add that the phrase in the article, "not the quickest", is incorrect; as a resident of Hampton Roads, I can get between Yorktown and Williamsburg quite quickly on Colonial Parkway. However, what that entails may not be entirely legal. That said, Colonial Parkway is a great place to drive, even within the speed limits. I've been known to hike it several times as well.

We should probably say "theoretically not the quickest" given the heavy traffic and delays at times on many major routes and corridors. Vaoverland 09:34, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, in all seriousness, I have been tempted to delete or change that text "not the quickest" for quite some time since it seems rather like one person's opinion thrown in for an unknown purpose, and it does not seem encyclopedic but actually rather silly. It also implies there is something about this parkway that is slowing down traffic since it was added so emphatically with italics. I propose we just modify it to read "popular and leisurely" or "popular and scenic". 15:45, March 25, 2016 (EDT) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 166.67.66.247 (talk) 19:48, 25 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Since there were no protests, I have taken the liberty of finally editing this article as I indicated above. (BTW, that was me in the anonymous comment above, but as I had not used my Wikipedia account in many years, I had forgotten my password for logging in.) Quick cleanup

[edit]

I have moved briefly through the article, rearranging sentences for flow, compacting into paragraphs, adding an image, adding a caption, and removing some of the "non-encyclopaedic modifiers" from sentences (to remove the "travel guide" feel of the text). Hopefully these all help improve the article! Jabberjawjapan (talk) 01:37, 9 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Status Condition

[edit]

I was in that area earlier today (10 June 2024)- at the Yorktown end. Portions are closed due to extensive renovations. NOT positive - Android Smart phone/ Google gave me not warning reminder on that- or seemed so - chance that was a matter of my usage - NOT google. . Wfoj3 (talk) 23:43, 10 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
