Sonic the Hedgehog is a 1991 video game released for the Master System and Game Gear, developed by Ancient and published by Sega, While it might look like a port, it is very different from its 16-bit counterpart, in terms of levels, bosses, and sprites. In this game, Sonic cannot recollect his rings after being hit.

The game has been re-released a lot, such as in Sonic Mega Collection or Sonic Origins Plus.
