It's often not accurate. Connections are made to regional servers that don't have enough bandwidth and are not an accurate depiction of speeds. I know ISP's that have confessed to having a server that cannot complete a speed test over a certain rate. It generally works, but only if you select a certain server. Naturally running speed tests all day is basically wasteful of power, resource, and bandwidth. So - it's not an accurate measurement and it's basically a waste of resources.

Works great for getting an idea of internet performance. Downdetector is nice, but only allowing users to have three favorites is annoying. There are so many frequently used applications that may need checked at any given time, and being able to have more than three of them easily accessible at the top would be more convenient.

I use this app frequently to check my download speeds. It has always seemed accurate, never exceeding what I know my system is capable of, but definitely shows me when it slows down. It also has some other features that allow you to test and track activity levels of other networks and apps. I have been using it regularly for almost 7 years now.
