Quotes

[edit]
  • Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.
    • 2:15-17 NIV
    • This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.
      • 3:16 NIV
  • Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
    • 2:2-3 KJV
    • If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth
    • And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us
      • 3:23 ESV
  • Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
    • 4:4 KJV
    • Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
  • And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
    • 4:16 NIV
    • There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love him, because he first loved us.
