Date of birth

[edit]

In the introduction of the article, it says Rich was born October 5, but in the info box it lists his date of birth as October 10. Anyone know which is correct?--74.131.179.238 (talk) 07:58, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Best fighter

[edit]

Rich Franklin is by far the best middleweight in the UFC. He is very aggressive on his feet and just as aggressive on the ground. " ALL GO ACE" that's what I call him. I love watching him fight. Bottom line he brings it. I also like his coaching style on The Ultimate Fighter. He lets people beleive in themselves, unlike Matt who forces his guy's one way or the other. I have yet to see Rich outmatched. I have not seen all of Rich's fights, but i'm trying to find the one i have not seen. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.127.188.182 (talkcontribs) .

Mixed Martial Arts Table

[edit]

OK, I just recently spent some time re-doing Rich's MMA Table and just cleaning it up, who the fuck just changed it back? SuzukS 10:53, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

  • I don't know, but try and act civil, theres no reason for that kind of language. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't offend me or anything, but please don't try and act tuff over the internet.... its lame. Takedashingen620 05:29, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Quarry KO

[edit]

After Rich hit him with the straight left he was totally stiff with both his arms sticking up, his fists clenched, his left leg lifted up. He was out cold and his brain totally shut down so that he landed in the position he was fighting in. It's funny that Quarry questioned Franklin's chin and then ends up getting brutally KO'd by him. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Aoa8212 (talkcontribs) .

Silva owned him

[edit]

I knew it would happen GO CHUTE BOX (i know hes a former member) anyways does anyone know the time the fight was stopped? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.232.246.214 (talkcontribs) .It was stopped at 3:59 of the first round when Franklin dropped to the ground and couldnt defend himself

Fight fighter lists the victory as 2:59 in the first round. http://www.sherdog.com/fightfinder/fightfinder.asp?fighterID=392 -— Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.69.200.239 (talk) 05:29, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nasal Fracture

"Increases UFC Record to 8-1-0"

[edit]

...reads the notes in his fight against Jason McDonald. I was just wondering why this is worth noting? What is special about someone's UFC record going from 7-1-0 to 8-1-0?Hexrei 02:53, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Personal Life Section

[edit]

Can someone fix the personal life section to make it visible? Thanks. (MgTurtle (talk) 23:02, 10 December 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Done. Tuckdogg (talk) 23:45, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Changed it to include what is in the Biography section, and because both sections contained related information which calls for just one section, left it with the appropriately named "Biography" title. CaptainMorgan (talk) 00:46, 23 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We need to come up with a consensus on the personal life section. It's been discussed but nothing really ever gets settled because not every page is changed to fit the consensus.(MgTurtle (talk) 23:21, 1 September 2009 (UTC)).[reply]

I'm confused when you use the word 'consensus' - first you say we need to come up with one, but then you say that not every page is changed to fit the consensus (implying there actually is one). Keep in mind the wiki manuals and guidelines are just that; things to go by - to my knowledge, and correct me if I'm wrong, they're not absolute and can be in some uncommon (yet not rare) cases bent. The information concerning these two sections are unique compared to other articles though, as they're either misplaced or the sections incorrectly named. If you'd like, I'd be happy with changing of the title from Biography to Personal Life as the title didn't matter to me when I moved the marriage info back to the top.
Here's my opinion on a few items:
  1. The statement about his wife is definitely related to his personal life, but so is his education - I say this because they were (or are) both teachers, and that occupation is appropriately mentioned - therefore, it's redundant to split that information into more than one section.
  2. The information concerning what he's doing outside of MMA to assist children is great stuff, but I'm undecided to which section that would belong.
  3. It's difficult to argue with his resemblance to Jim Carrey not being personal...
So, if we don't rename the section completely but have to split it up into two sections, I think I'd be happy seeing this:
Biography:
Franklin and American Fighter President Jeff Adler created The Keep It In The Ring Foundation to advocate non-violence and build character in youth. This is done through after school sports, martial arts, and life skills programs. Franklin made his acting debut in a film called Cyborg Soldier where he plays an escaped super soldier and partners with Tiffani Thiessen. He tested as a "Celtic Warrior" by Warrior Roots.
Personal Life:
Prior to becoming a full time MMA fighter Franklin graduated from William Henry Harrison High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics and later earned a master's degree in education,[2] and taught mathematics at the Oak Hills High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.[3] Franklin has a wife named Beth who is an English teacher at Reading High School.[4]
Franklin is a born-again Christian and quotes Psalm 144:1 on his webpage and fighter gear. February 21, 2006, was officially named "Rich Franklin Day" in Cincinnati by the city's mayor.
His nickname "Ace" comes from his resemblance to Jim Carrey, who played the character Ace Ventura. Joe Rogan once called him "An angry Jim Carrey".
What's your opinion? CaptainMorgan (talk) 07:19, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Okay I didn't see what I said earlier. Um...I guess the consensus I was referring to was the fact that other athletes (i.e. Football players, Baseball players, etc.) have a separate personal life section and there is really no discussion with this section. I believe that there should be a personal life section and a biography section with the personal life section relating to the fighters' personal lives and the biography relating to the beginning of the fighters' and there education and previous jobs (their lives before they began fighting.)The statement about him being a born-again Christian could go in the personal life section since it's his personal belief or it can go in the biography if that helped shape his life. The nickname and Rich Franklin Day need citations but these seem more like trivia.Maybe the sentence can be changed to include what Joe Rogan said about him.The movie can go in another section about his movie career or outside mma like Quinton Jackson's page.If we can find a citation that states that he met his wife at the school he taught at or in college, then that could go in the biography section and there would be no need for a personal life section. Not sure where the stuff about him helping children should go either. Those are my opinions.(MgTurtle (talk) 12:45, 2 September 2009 (UTC)).[reply]

Summaries

[edit]

What's up with the fight summary the way they are. No other page looks like this. The fight summaires should be in flowing paragraphs like other pages, not the way they are now.(MgTurtle (talk) 19:18, 24 August 2009 (UTC)).[reply]

What is meant by " ufc 195 pound title"

[edit]

As far as I know, the UFC is not promoting a new weight class at 195 (sub-light heavyweight? super-middleweight?). What does "title" mean in this regard? --Jackbox1971 (talk) 04:45, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I've seen him multiple times with the miletich team (i.e. hughes, horn sylvia) as part of the emntourage.
