Birth year

[edit]

If she was born in 1838, how could she have taken a patent in 1980?--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 00:03, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That's my mistake, it should have been 1890. I just corrected it. DaffodilOcean (talk) 00:26, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

WP:PUFFERY

[edit]

I have just edited the page to remove the WP:PUFFERY from the page. The examples include these phrases: 'innovator skillset','deep knowledge','critical inventions','great potential',brilliant female engineer',and 'innovative thinker'. The article also had new additions of sentences citing blogs, which are not considered reliable sources, see WP:USERGENERATED. Hopefully future versions of the page can retain an encyclopedic tone, and stick to the known facts. DaffodilOcean (talk) 21:29, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Also added some sources after reading about it at the Teahouse. Interesting subject. Regards, Darwin Naz (talk) 02:46, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Additional info?

[edit]

I came across a draft article on Wilcox that might have some usable information that could be incorporated in this article. You can find it at User:Nico C35/sandbox. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 06:35, 19 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Really subjective article, lacking reliable sources

[edit]

I'm a new editor, but I think many sentences lack a source and are really subjective

"Little is known about her early life, which was common for many women of her era, whose personal histories were often overshadowed by their male counterparts." The article cited didn't mention this https://www.voicemagazine.org/2021/04/30/women-of-interest-margaret-wilcox/

"Wilcox showed an early interest in mechanical engineering despite the social conventions of her era, which often restricted women's roles to domestic domains." No source?

"Throughout her career, Wilcox showed a creative spirit and adeptness at navigating the traditionally male-dominated field of mechanical engineering." 'creative spirit and adeptness' sounds really subjective, and also no sources is cited

"Wilcox faced many of the same difficulties that other female inventors of her era had during her career. Women filing patents under their own names was still uncommon and frequently challenging in the late 19th century." No source

"Despite these challenges, Wilcox persisted and was able to patent her creations, which is evidence of her drive and aptitude as an engineer and inventor." 'her drive and aptitude as an engineer and inventor' subjective and no source

"Her contributions—the car heating system in particular—have subsequently been acknowledged as key innovations in the automotive sector." acknowledged by whom exactly?

"Her efforts are now seen as crucial to the development of vehicle comfort, improving not only passenger convenience but also the worldwide supply chain by being essential in the transfer of commodities that are sensitive to temperature." 'seen as crucial' by whom?
