Merger proposal

[edit]

This should be merged into animal bite, that article is more detailed and this article is very short. Editor abcdef (talk) 02:01, 10 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Editor abcdef. This article should be merged. Snuggle (talk) 17:07, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Last section does not make sense

[edit]

What does it mean that biting is a behavior for humans 30 months old and below? Biting what? Don't all humans with teeth need to bite to chew their food? In what way does biting communicate? What does biting communicate? Biting a person? ???207.163.233.10 (talk) 22:33, 28 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Separate sections for types of biting (including human and animal)

[edit]

There should probably be specific categories of biting.

Examples: as a behavioral aggression in animals, in children (during adolescence and when it becomes a sign of developmental or socialization problems), as a sign of dominance, a see also section referencing mastication as well as (forensic and general)odontology and general dentition, as a communication form in animals, non aggressive biting, and a list of times that biting has been referenced in popular culture (maybe the use of biting in identification of criminals? example Ted Bundy), as well as the behavior of biting in adult humans (for pathological reasons, self defense, or in sexuality), and teething. Bite force table

[edit]

A table of bite force may be built using numbers from crocodile#bite (5,000 lbf (22,000 N)), and (1,490 N) for a Rottweiler, 800 lbf (3,600 N) for a hyena. Are other editors willing to contribute? TGCP (talk) 08:53, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Introductory Sentence

[edit]

The lead includes an introductory sentence that describes the article’s topic “biting”. However it focuses on animals biting and excludes the fact that humans also participate in this activity in the lead section.
