The Republican Party was founded in 1854.[1] They quickly rose to popularity, managing to narrowly lose the 1856 United States presidential election. The first Republican President was Abraham Lincoln in 1860. There have been 19 Republican presidents so far. The last us president that was a republican was Donald Trump in 2017.

  1. ^ On April 14, 1865 US President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in Ford's Theater by John Wilkes Booth. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead the next day on April 15, 1865. [3]
  2. ^ This was before the 25th Amendment in 1967. Andrew Johnson was the vice president of Abraham Lincoln who was assassinated in 1865. This meant Andrew Jonson did not have any vice president.

  6. ^ On September 6,1901 William Mckinley was shot in the Temple of Music by anarchist Leon Czolgosz. He was then brought to an hospital. Intially there were signs of Mkinley recovering,But the doctors were incompentent. And after 1 week,He died from the bullet. [8]

  10. ^ In 1909 when Eisenhower was only 19, He announced that he is a Democrat. But he changed his party later on in life. [10]
  11. ^ On August 8, Richard Nixon announced that he intended to resign the following day. Due to the Watergate Scandal, his reputation was tainted. He gave a resignation speech.[11] The next his presidency ended and he was succeeded by his vice president Gerald Ford.
  12. ^ His presidency began when Richard Nixon resigned from office. Since he was vice president he became President afterwards. He tried to get a full term but was defeated in 1976 by democrat nominee Jimmy Carter. His presidency ended when his successor Jimmy Carter entered office on January 20, 1977.
