Bells is an American Post-rock, ambient, mostly instrumental band, from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Formed in 2005, by Jon Hershey and Sean Hennessey after Hershey left metal band August Burns Red [1].

History

edit

Bells formed in 2005 as the joint project of guitarists Jon Hershey and Sean Hennessey. Jon Hershey was the lead vocalist of August Burns Red until 2005[2]. Sean Hennessey played bass with This or the Apocalypse up until 2009 when he left to pursue Bells fulltime with Hershey. Timothy Kettering joined the ensemble in 2010. The trio is joined on stage by live members Joseph Terranova and current August Burns Red drummer Matt Greiner[3]. Joseph Terranova is now a full-time member of the band.

In 2011 the band was featured on August Burns Red's album "Leveler: Deluxe Edition" with their cover of the song "Pangaea" which was released on Solid State Records [4].

On August 28, 2012 Bells self released their debut album entitled "Our Forest, Our Empire". The album is 11 tracks, and clocks in with a length of 40:06. The album has received generally positive reviews from critics with praise directed at its production values[5] and composition[6] while criticism was directed at its lack of vocals[7], and lack of continuity between songs[8].

The CD release show for Our Forest, Our Empire was played with La Overtoner, and The Voice (TV series) season 2 contestant Ducky Duke and his backing band The Vintage on August 25th[9]. The entire performance was recorded by Blue Ridge Communications. The show was broadcast October 9th,10th, and 11th on Blue Ridge Cable 11 and Blue Ridge Cable 13.[10].

In March 2013, Toby Pool joined Bells as their drummer.
