The Indian Witch Doctor is the main antagonist of the Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? episode "Decoy for a Dognapper". It is a persona adopted by Buck Masters to aid in his dognapping scheme.
He was voiced by the late Don Messick.
Biography
Buck Masters wants to win the dog show with his dog Big Red. He makes a scheme to dognapp other dogs and his own. He planned that Big Red would turn up and be the only dog there, thus winning the contest. Buck stole dogs and kept them in an abandoned old indian village. To keep people away he took the disguise of an Indian Witch Doctor so he could scare people away and he made a projection of a ghostly indian riding a horse that terrified Scooby and the Gang.
In the beginning of the episode the Scooby Gang hear news about dognapping. They meet up with one of the victims being Buck Masters and tell him that they'll find the one who steals all the dogs. The gang uses Scooby as a decoy pretending to be Bob Miller's Great Dane and the Indian Witch Doctor's henchman captures him and take him to the indian village, where the other dogs are locked up in cages. But the Indian Witch Doctor doesn't want Scooby and orders his henchman to lock Scooby in a cage and put the cage on a handcar on a railroad.
Shaggy and Fred saves Scooby before a train hits them and everyone goes to the indian village where they see the ghost (only a projection) that terrifies them but they continue anyway. The Indian Witch Doctor comes and warns Mystery Inc. to not enter the village but they do.
Later the Indian Witch Doctor kidnaps Daphne and ties her to a pole. Scooby finds himself in the room where all dogs are locked up and where Daphne is bound. Daphne and Scooby free the dogs and reuintes with the others. The dogs sees the Indian Witch Doctor and chases after him, in the end Scooby unmasks the Indian Witch Doctor to reveal Buck Masters underneath the costume. After being unmasked, he is then sent to prison.
Trivia
- Indian Witch Doctor was the first monster to begin the running theme to kidnap Daphne Blake.
- Though not stated, the fact that Masters contacted Bob Miller to "warn" him about the dognappers and was able to learn Miller's dog walking route means that it was likely an intentional ploy by Masters to get information. As an apparent dognapping victim, he had all the credibility required to gain the confidence of Miller and learn about his security precautions. Masters may have employed such a tactic with the other show dog owners.
- Although not mentioned by name, Buck Masters has once appeared in a Robot Chicken sketch where he burned down an old mansion for the insurance money only to realize the Mystery Gang are inside investigating. Buck Masters runs back inside where Shaggy tells him to save Scooby-Doo and he gets away with his crimes for four years, until he's drowned in his hot tub by Scooby-Doo in disguise.
