Devilance the Pursuer is a fictional extraterrestrial hunter in the DC Comics universe.[1]

Publication history

[edit]

Devilance first appeared in Forever People #11 (August 1972) and was created by Jack Kirby.[2]

Fictional character biography

[edit]

Devilance is a New God from Apokolips and a hunter who serves its leader, Darkseid. During an attempt to kill the Forever People, Devilance battles Infinity-Man and is presumed dead.[2]

Devilance resurfaces in the series 52, where he captures Starfire, Adam Strange, and Animal Man on another planet.[3][4] They later escape, and Devilance is killed by Lobo.[5][6]

In 2016, DC Comics implemented a relaunch called "DC Rebirth", which restored its continuity to a form much as it was prior to The New 52. In Dial H for Hero, Devilance battles Robby Reed with DeSaad, Kalibak, Tigra, Steppenwolf, and the Parademons.[7]

Powers and abilities

[edit]

As a New God, Devilance possesses superhuman physical abilities. He can additionally manipulate his own physical density and is resistant to extreme temperatures.

Equipment

[edit]

Devilance's principal weapon is his lance, which serves many functions. It can fly, fire powerful energy blasts, and track others via circuitry embedded into it.
