Brendan David Tobias (born May, 4 1989) known professionally as Traphaven[1]is a American rapper and songwriter.He is currently a independent artist. His singles "100 Yard Dash" and "Black Migo" have seen regional success and are featured in numerous publications. He is currently preparing the release of his mixtape "Black Migo".
Biography
[edit]Early Life
[edit]Brendan Tobias was born in Newport News, Virginia, the fifth of five children. Tobias grew to devolop an interest in music at a very early age starting piano lessons at age 5 . Prior to rapping, Tobias started making and producing compositions on keyboards and FLStudio.Tobias has 1 brother and 1 sister; his oldest brother was murdered in 2005 and his youngest sister died in 2003.
Despite his parents separating at an early age, both were present in Tobias's upbringing. During his teenage years, Tobias was incarcerated in Newport News Juvenile Detention[2] for threatening his brother with a gun. Released on probation and having created his own studio, Tobias would record music almost on a daily basis. Tobias met "Tyrone"[3] composer Norman "Keys" Hurt[4] and instantly gravitated towards him musically,later viewing him as a mentor.
Education
[edit]Tobias Graduated from Denbigh Highschool in 2007. He then attended Morehouse College from 2007-2009 but relocated and graduted in 2012 from Middle Tennessee State University.
Career
[edit]On June 3, 2013 Traphaven collaborated with hiphop legend Ellis "Mr Biggs" Williams[6] releasing his first EP entitled "Traphaven"[7] under Behind The Ropes Entertainment.His single "100 Yard Dash" achieved local success and went viral after the creation of "The 100 Yard Dash Challenge" awarding cash prizes to dancers online.
2016:Pay Tha Rent
[edit]On April 20, 2016 Traphaven released "Pay Tha Rent" a self-produced and recorded mixtape. However the release was later withrawn due to a change in vocal delivery and creative direction.
2018:Calculate
[edit]On July 1, 2018 Traphaven released "Calculate"[8]a single in collaboration with multi-platnium producer Cxdy .With this upbeat, highly syncopated song he was able to recieve a placement on Worldstar Hiphop.
2019:NiggaRich
[edit]On Oct 16, 2019 Traphaven collaborated with multi-platnium producer Cashmoney AP[9] adn released "NiggaRich".The song saw some controversy due to the subject matter and overall tone of the subject matter.The video was recorded at Uncle Toms Place a historic landmark.
