Women politicians, black women politicians

[edit]

I remember a black woman, a member of the House of Representatives, who ran for President some time in the 1950s or 1960s. She might not have been the first woman to run for President on the Democratic ticket, but she was the first in modern times. I cannot remember her name, but she was very important, and she is not mentioned in your Women in American history. I realize that the perception of the importance of any particular minority group will vary with circumstances, but black women seem to be considerably less important than lesbian women in your collection, although I think the numbers in the general population are about the same (less than 15%), and the battles they fought and are fighting are very similar. Please add a specific category for black women in politics, if you are not interested in putting them in your timeline at the places where they made a significant national impact. 24.5.196.15 (talk) 05:43, 12 May 2016 (UTC)Teddy Knight, dknteddy@aol.com24.5.196.15 (talk) 05:43, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
