ketchup

[edit]

has anyone heard of cocktail sauce that is ketchup + mayonnaise??? --Kvuo 01:16, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but, it's primaraly a salad dressing, Italian, I think... Thousand Island is that mixed with pickle relish. --Schwarz (May 14, 2007)
In Australia and the UK, we serve a cocktail sauce that's tomato ketchup and mayonnaise, with a little lemon and Tabasco added. It always served with seafood ... NEVER as a salad dressing. 124.168.181.224 (talk) 23:11, 12 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This may be a regional choice, but restaurants here in the states generally serve cocktail sauce consisting of chili sauce and horseradish, not ketchup. Ketchup would certainly be sent back. Philrose 19:08, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't chili sauce just spicy ketchup ? :) --Kvuo 22:45, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Marie Rose sauce

[edit]

To my knowledge, "cocktail sauce" is not a latter name for Marie Rose sauce. Nothing against either. "Cocktail sauce" seems to refer to the fact that the ketchup + horseradish sauce is primarily served with shrimp cocktail, so Marie Rose sauce is a cocktail sauce, but I don't think that needs to be added to the article. The Marie Rose sauce page clearly defines it as being a specific sauce served with a variety of dishes, so claiming that the name evolved to "cocktail sauce" limits its use and muddies its composition.
