- Η Βάρκιζα είναι συνοικία της Βάρης της περιφέρειας Αττικής, νότιο προάστιο της Αθήνας Το 1968 μετονομάστηκε σε Αλίανθο, ονομασία ωστόσο που δεν διατηρήθηκε. Ανήκει διοικητικά στον δήμο Βάρης - Βούλας - Βουλιαγμένης. Είναι παραθαλάσσιος οικισμός της Αττικής και βρίσκεται 20 χιλιόμετρα νότια του κέντρου της Αθήνας. Είναι χτισμένη στα παράλια του Σαρωνικού, νοτίως των ορεινών απολήξεων του Υμηττού και αποτελεί διάσημο τουριστικό θέρετρο. Η τοποθεσία στην οποία απλώνεται ο οικισμός αποτελεί μία από τις ακριβότερες περιοχές στην Ελλάδα. Διοικητικά υπάγεται στην Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Νοτιοανατολικής Αττικής. Είναι χτισμένη στα παράλια του Σαρωνικού κόλπου και αποτελεί διάσημο τουριστικό θέρετρο. Το τοπίο γύρω από τον οικισμό παραπέμπει σε κλασικό Αττικό τοπίο της υπαίθρου, με θαμνώδεις - βραχώδεις εκτάσεις, αλλά και πολλά πεύκα που απλώνουν τον ίσκιο τους στα γαλανά νερά του Σαρωνικού.Συγκοινωνιακά εξυπηρετείται από τις λεωφορειακές γραμμές 122 και 171 του ΟΑΣΑ (el)
- Várkiza, en grec moderne : Βάρκιζα, est une localité côtière de la banlieue sud d'Athènes, dans la région de l'Attique, en Grèce. Elle est située à 19 km au sud du centre d'Athènes, à l'extrémité sud du complexe urbain d'Athènes. Elle est reliée à Athènes par les avenues (el) et (el). L'emplacement de la localité est l'une des zones les plus chères de l'Attique et de la Grèce. En 1968, elle est rebaptisée Alíantho (Αλίανθο), un nom qui n'a pas été conservé au fil des ans. Várkiza est construite sur la côte du golfe Saronique et est une station touristique réputée. Le paysage autour de la localité rappelle un paysage de campagne classique de l'Attique, avec des zones buissonnantes et rocheuses, mais aussi de nombreux pins qui répandent leur ombre dans les eaux bleues du golfe Saronique. - Varkiza (Greek: Βάρκιζα), also Alianthos (Αλίανθος), is a suburb of greater Athens forming part of the municipality of Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni in southern Attica of the (Large Finger). It lies approximately 2 km south of Vari, 22 km S of Athens city centre, SW of the Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport and the Attiki Odos (numbers 6 and 62), NW of Cape Sounio, and south of the Hymettus Ring. The locality is linked with Poseidonos Avenue (GR-91), just east of Vouliagmeni. The Hymettus mountains lie to the northwest and the Mesogeian plain to the north. Another mountain lies toward the northeast. Most of the area's streets take names from Greek mythology, and its main street, Poseidonos, forms a connection with the route running from Neo Faliro down toward the Glyfada boundary. Forests cover partpart of the municipality, but much of the mountainous area is rocky and grassy. Varkiza has a widely known beach, which has tennis courts, parkland and fields, restaurants, taverns, complexes and other amenities. The urban sprawl sporadically covers the farmlands and moves west of Varkiza. The population were rural until the 1960s while suburban housing sprang up between the 1960s and the 1990s, making most of the population urban and expanding to this day. Housing development began in the central part of district where farmland once used to dominate its central areas and within the Saronic Gulf. Later, Varkiza became part of the Athens urban area, and in the 1960s, the connecting highway had two lanes added. (en)
