Lise Meitner and the (supposed) transuranic elements. (English) Zbl 1268.81006

From the text: With the momentous discoveries of the neutron, deuterium, and the positron, as well as the development of the cyclotron, the year 1932 is widely regarded as the ‘annus mirabilis’ of nuclear physics. In addition, the discovery of the neutron led to a new understanding of the atomic nucleus. Working independently of one another, Werner Heisenberg in Leipzig and Dimitrij D. Ivanenko in Moscow developed a proton-neutron model of the atomic nucleus and published their findings in 1932 as well.
