Wikipedia:Editor review/DickClarkMises

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DickClarkMises (talk · contribs) I recently celebrated my two year wiki-anniversary and I am still excited about being a part of this project. I often work in dark corners of Wikipedia where I have little interaction with other editors, so I'd like to get some feedback on my contributions to see how I could improve. You can refer to my userpage for a list of articles that I have played some role in developing. DickClarkMises 16:12, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reviews

I skimmed all the articles you linked to and your user and user talk pages. I found that your editing skills are extremely strong. You are an A-level writer and organizer, and A+ at finding references. I was impressed how you piled on with supporting references in an AFD discussion. Normally I frown upon commenting many times in the same AFD (it can seem disruptive), but in that case it was more than justified. Overall, your experience with Wikipedia has led you to produce many fine A-class articles. I'm also impressed that you took the effort to obtain permission to copy some images onto Wikipedia per the GFDL. That takes work.

I always try to give some practical advice in these reviews. My advice to you is to help other editors do what you're so good at. There are various ways of doing this: you could do cleanup/wikify/categorize/maintenance tasks; see WP:CLEANUP. You could review good article candidates - this category is continually backlogged with hundreds of articles needing to be reviewed, and I think you have an instinct for detecting the good article criteria. Similarly, you have the knowledge to comment on Featured article candidates or Featured article review or peer review. You can submit your new (or substantially expanded) articles to WP:DYK. You could answer questions at the reference desk.

I don't see anything else to comment on. I see you're in a mediation case, but given the subject of the article, I don't hold it against you. I wish you good luck. YechielMan 07:45, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your very encouraging review! I do some minimal amount of work on reviewing good article candidates, but I plan to expand my involvement on that project. I also welcome a lot of users in order to inform them of the ground rules. Others reviews? DickClarkMises 17:46, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Questions

  1. Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
I am particularly proud of my work on Frank Fetter, Heather Higgins, W.H. Hutt, Robert Sirico, Robert Ekelund, Robert Tollison, Lawrence Fertig, Westclox, and Acton Institute, to name a few. I am pleased with these because I feel like my contributions either resulted in an article existing or, with those that already existed, resulted in an article becoming more attractive, better sourced, and generally more useful (I hope so, anyway).
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
I have been involved in conflicts from time to time. I am currently involved in an edit dispute at Nazism, where I have mostly been involved in discussion but not in editing the article itself. I don't get too stressed out about this sort of thing, and I generally try not to take disagreements personally. Edit conflicts consume a very small portion of my time.
