Tere Liye (Hindi: तेरे लिए) (English: For You) is a Hindi language soap opera that airs on STAR Plus. The show is produced by Ekta Kapoor and created by Balaji Telefilms.

The show explores the strong but intangible emotion of ‘selfless’ love between Taani and Anurag as they traverse different phases of life from childhood, through adolescence to finally adulthood. It is a story of two people bound to each other in childhood, separated by circumstances, and brought together by the unbreakable bond of love. ^[1]

the story begins with anurag and taani when they were 14 and 15 and how they were married by their parents but no body knows exept family members...then its mostly about taani and anurag school life how they get mad at each other and then becomes friends...a boy falls for taani but he is mean and always make funn of anurag because he's fat...after their kid life they move on to their adulthood. The story is about two young lovers Taani Chatterjee (Anupriyah Kapoor) and Anurag Ganguli (Harshad Chopra). It is a story of eternal love and the sacrifices made between two people, through separation and meeting. Taani and Anurag were childhood friends who were forced to get married due to Taani's father developing cancer, and wanting to see his daughter's wedding. Due to circumstances the two are separated from each other and after an eight year leap the two meet again. Taani (Anupriya Kapoor) has been waiting for Anurag (Harshad Chopra) as she is in love with him, however Anurag has found a life partner in someone else; Nupur. When Taani finds out she is heartbroken, and break ties with Anurag but still loves him. Anurag vows to find her a sutaible bachelor to take his place, and sees this in his close friend Sushant. Taani does not want him as a husband at first and is angry, however later agrees .Meanwhile Taani wants to fulfill her second dream which is to become a singer and she gets a chance which is a contract for a music album with the rich bachelor Sushant Roy who is Anurag's friend. As time goes on Sushant falls for Taani and asks her hand in marriage and Tani agrees because Anurag said he wont get married until Tani finds a well suited guy. But Sushant leaves Taani because he thinks that Taani and Anuraag are still in love and that Taani is cheating him, and Nupur leaves Anurag to be a model on their ashirvad ceremony day. To save Anurag's name, Taani sits in Nupur's place for the ceremony. Their families are very happy. Tani tells Anurag that they can pretend to be engaged until Anurag's grandmother leaves. Once she leaves they'll tell everyone that they were pretending. In the recent episode we can see that Anurag is realizing the love Tani has for him. Taani sees Ananya didi's husband Ritesh changing her birth pills to something else, despite knowing that another baby might kill her. Later when no one is around she goes to Ananya's room to change it back to what it was, but Ananya didi comes inside the room and thinks that Taani was changing her pills trying to kill her. She takes Taani out of the room and goes to the living room. Ananya calls everyone out and blames Taani in front of them. Ananya di's father gets mad at Taani, but Anurag comes forward and defends Taani. In anger his father tells Anurag that he is nothing himself and that Anurag is living in his house, and tells Anurag to leave his house and come back when he has become something without his help and name. Anurag leaves the house that instant, Taani follows him. He tells her that their saath was only till then as anyway they were going to tell their respective families the truth about their relationship, also tells to go back to her house and makes her promise not to tell Laboni maa about as she would be sad. Tani agrees. And Anurag goes to one of his friends house to stay for the night. Taani on the other hand goes home and Laboni maa senses something wrong, and when asked Taani she says that Anurag went somewhere for business. The next morning Taani is feeling sad while helping her maa in the kitchen and Laboni maa is now sure that something is definitely wrong, just then Robbie comes and Laboni maa finds out that Anurag actually left his father's house. Anurag is sitting for breakfast at his friend's house, when his friends wife compares Taani to Nupur and says nupur is way better. anurag feels insulted and leaves his friends house and goes to a garden/park sitting on a bench. There Laboni maa finds him and tells him to come to her house, a cute scene and Anu goes with her. When they get home Anu's mom is there and she tells him that he will someday become something and that never comeback if he doesn't (not in a bad, she means that she believes in him). She also tells Taani to stand by her son Anurag no matter what happens, and she says always. Anurag applies for a new job, interviews and gets it. But later gets a call that he's been refused as he is the son of the rival. Anurag is very sad and Taani comforts him. To cheer him up she takes him with all the other friends to movie theatre. On the way there Anurag's father comes to take him back home, Anurag hugs him, but decides not to go back as he doesn't wanna break Taani belief in him that he will become someone someday. He also says that he knows Tani will always stand by him. After saying this he leaves with Taani towards the theatre. After that they have some funny scenes. Taani sees Ritesh at the theatres with a different girl. Ritesh notices her and runs away. Meanwhile Ananya gets pregnant and blames Taani for her pregnancy and also decides to break her relationship with anurag. She tells anurag that tani knew the fact the Nupur was about to run away from the ashirwad ceremony, but tani did not care to tell this fact to anurag and also since Anurag is struggling to settle himself and is not financially stable therefore, she is planning to leave anurag and has started seeing subodh(another childhood friend). Anurag became very upset after hearing this and broke his relalations with Taani. Anurag goes to stay in his factory immediately afterwards. Anurag's father tries to convince him to come back which Anurag denies. Anurag will not speak to Tani. Subodh offers a huge contract to Anurag. Anurag wants the contract but doesn't want to put a heavy load on the workers. Tani talks to the workers so they can convince Anurag to sign for the contract in return she helps them with their responsibilities at home and work. Anurag signs the contract and successfully finishes the work. Shekhar and Anurag end up competing for the contract much to Ritesh's happiness as he thinks Anurag will never win and thus never come home. Meanwhile Tani asks Jonaki why she meddled in Mouli and Robindo's life as they are now getting married. Jonaki says that Mouli loves Taposh and should not have to marry Robindo and she mentions that there is another reason which she cannot inform Tani of. Jonaki also mocks Tani and Mouli's beliefs in love. After some time when Anurag proves himself, Subodh told him it was Taani not him who helped Anurag. Anurag now feels devastated and realises his love for Taani. Taani is now on her way to Mumbai to find Nupur and to tell her to come back to Anurag. She leaves on the train. Anurag tries to stop her and goes to the train station. Ananya hears about this and stops Anurag. The train leaves with Taani on board. Taani reaches Nupur and talks to her. Anurag hears the conversation over the phone. Nupur does not care about Taani's talks. Taani goes on the train and Anurag finds her and stops her. Anurag takes Taani home but does not confess his love. Robindo plans a surprse birthday party for Mouli. Here Robindo tries to tell Mouli he loves her. Subodh then tries to tell Taani about Anurag's love. Anurag confesses his love for Taani himself and brings her home. He finds Nupur at home and Nupur starts to hug Anurag and apologise. Taani gets jealous and upset seeing this and leaves. Anurag pushes Nupur and follows Taani and convinces her that he loves her. Ananya tries to convince Anurag that he doesnt love Taani and she is bad, but Anurag does not believe her this time. Nupur feels very upset and slashes her wrist. Taani sees this and convinces Nupur to come inside but she doesn't because she wants Anurag to save her. Taani convinces Anurag to save Nupur, but Nupur has plans on becoming once again, Anurag's love! Shekhar is full on Nupur's side and so is Ananya. What will happen to Anurag's and Tani's love? Nupur tries all her efforts to gain Anurag's love, but Anurag only loves Tanni.

During a function, in front of everyone Anurag breaks his relationship with Tanni. He proposes to her and says he wants everyone to know that he is not marrying her because of their childhood marriage but for his love. Anurag and Taani have many romantic moments where one time Anu kisses Tanni. Afterwards, Taposh (Taani's brother, and Mauli's lover) confesses his love for Mauli to Tanni and says he will tell Mauli. Tanni starts to worry, she promised Anu's dad that the marriage will not be broken and she fears that once Mauli finds out, she will leave Robindo for Taposh. Taani immediately calls Anu, but Taposh already confesses to Mauli, and all is heard by Robindo, Tanni, Anu and Jonkhi. Mauli says she loves Taposh but she will not leave Robindo since Taposh only realised his love, she says that Robindo really loves Mauli more than Taposh. Taposh leaves.

Suddenly, it is revealed that Robindo has a kid who he did not know of, during an affair with a girl 'in USA'. Meanwhile, Mauli is happily preparing for her big day. She goes to Tanni's house and Tanni tells her about the kid. Mauli storms into the Ganguly household, where she puts the wedding off. Afterwards, Taposh goes to Mauli's home to say goodbye. Mauli proposes to Taposh and he agrees.

Mauli and Taposh marry. Heartbroken, Robindo decides to leave town and Taani asks him what he's doing. He blames all that happened on Taani and curses Taani and Anu that like he couldn't be with Mauli, Taani and Anurag would also never be together. Next episode, Gulabo, prostitute Ritesh was having an affair with shows up to collect her money that he hasn't given her. When he doesn't give her the money, she threatens to reveal the truth about him to everyone. Taani overhears their conversation and talks to Gulabo and asks her not to tell anything to Ananya, because she will get hurt and none of it will make any difference to Ritesh. Gulabo agrees, but she requires money. Taani gives her necklase as payment to keep Gulabo quiet and asks her to do as she says. Gulabo agrees, but Ritesh overhears Taani and Gulabo's conversation. Nupur, meanwhile gives Gulabo more money and tell her to tell Ananya everything but blame everything on Taani and make it seem like Taani made Gulabo do all this. Nupur hopes that by doing this, everyone will blame Taani and kick her out of the house. Gulabo goes to Ananya and tells her everything, initially Ananya don't want to believe anything Gulabo says, but slowly she starts to realize that what Gulabo is saying is the truth. Ananya is devastated and walks out the house crying and walks out on to the street. All the while Ritesh trusts Taani not to do anything wrong, but Nupur talks him into believing that Taani is untrustworthy and will do everything in her power to hurt everyone. Ritesh drags Taani into a room and questions her about why she was talking to Gulabo and why she told Gulabo to do as she says? She says that she did that so Gulabo would keep her mouth shut. A girl screams and informs everyone that Ananya's been in an accident. Everyone runs out to the street and sees Ananya on the ground in a pool of blood. Ritesh goes to meet Ananya in the ICU, where he finds out that she knows everything about his cheating and lying and about his other affairs. They both cry and Ananya tells him that she doesnt want to live anymore. Ritesh confesses to Ananya about his misdoings and is overheard by the family. The doctors come in and tell Ananya that the operation is ready for her. As she is going she makes Anu promise that if something happens to her he will marry Taani because she is the only person that can raise her children properly. Anu and Taani promise to get married to each other no matter what. Ananya goes into the operation theater; Shekhar slaps ritesh and blames the whole situation on him. The doctors come out with the baby and reveal that they couldnt save ananya.Anurag consoles Shekhar and asks him to be strong to keep the family intact. Laboni and Taani are concerned for Anurag as he is single handedly taking charge of the situation. Nupur calls up Robindo and informs him about Ananya's demise. Mauli tells Taposh that they should go and meet the Ganguly family. Taposh asks her to keep him away from all this and tells her that he does not want to be a part of the Ganguly family in any way. Anurag could not bear the pain of losing Ananya. He breaks down in front of Taani. Ritesh comes to meet his kids. Shekhar and Anurag do not allow him to meet Kuhu. Ritesh blames Taani to separate his family from him. He threatens her to do the same with her. Taani and the entire Ganguly family are stunned with Ritesh's accusations. Ritesh thinks its Taani who is responsible for Ananya's death and for his fate. He decides to make her and Anurag's life hell. Ritesh enters Taani's place when she is all alone at home. He attempts to kill Taani but stops when he sees Kuhu sitting next to her. Laboni is stunned to see Ritesh at her place. He accuses her for killing Ananya with his evil intentions. She makes him believe that he is the sole reason for Ananya's sudden death. Ritesh feels disappointed and leaves. Shekhar asks Laboni that he want to get Anurag and Taani married to each other as soon as possible.Kuhu misses Ananya. Taani consoles her. Shekhar apologizes to Taani for his past behavior. Shekhar tells her that he regrets behaving badly with her. He is touched to see her devotion for the Ganguly family. He thanks her for taking care of Ananya's kids. He asks her to talk to Anurag about their marriage herself to speed up the process. Anurag is concerned for Robindo as he is not taking his calls. He wishes him to be there with him when the family needs to be together. Taani narrates the last night incident with Anurag. Anurag promises to send Ritesh behind bars very soon. Shekhar informs Anurag and Taani that he is planning to get them married anytime within seventeen days. Ritesh stuns the Ganguly family by showing them the court papers which states that Ritesh is equally a part of his property and has all rights to stay in their house. He also informs them that he has tricked Shekhar and had signed the power of attorney in his name. Shekhar is shocked to know that Ritesh is now the sole owner of all his company. Nupur is glad to see Ritesh in the house. Ritesh misses Ananya and tells her that he can’t spare the Ganguly's who he thinks are responsible for Ananya's death. Nupur asks Ritesh his plans and tells him that as long as he doesn’t harm Anurag she is with him and will help him out with his plan of ruining the Ganguly's. Ritesh misses Ananya and his kids. Anurag and Taani thinks of getting some evidence against Ritesh and pull him out of their place. Taani remembers Gulabo and tells Anurag that she might help them.Taani and Anurag are disappointed when they are not able to find Gulabo. They think she is the only person who can help them out to find Ritesh’s truth. Shekhar is shocked to see Ritesh decorating the house and preparing to celebrate his and Ananya's wedding anniversary. Shekhar and the entire Ganguly family are against the idea of Ritesh celebrating his wedding anniversary. Ritesh informs them that he loves Ananya a lot and this party is for her. Ritesh makes an announcement that he has everything but is still alone and the reason for the same is no one else but Taani and Anurag. He humiliates them in front of all. Anurag loses his control and gets angry with Ritesh. Taani tells him that the only way to catch hold of Ritesh is by finding out where Gulabo is. They decide to do a search of Ritesh's room to find some clues. Anurag finds out about Gulabo's whereabouts. He sets out to meet her. Anurag threatens Ritesh to put him behind bars very soon and unmask him before all. Anurag call up the police and asks for help. He asks him to come home within half an hour and record everything as he has something urgent to reveal against Ritesh.Ritesh misbehaves with Taani and Laboni in the party. He takes out his frustration on them. Anurag comes to Gulabo and asks her to come with him and help him out give justice to Ananya and her kids. Gulabo tells Anurag that Taani is innocent and she gave her money to get away from Ananya and her family. Anurag is relieved and requests her to come with him and tell this in front of all. Gulabo agrees to come with him. Shekhar gets concerned with whatever is going on in the house. He feels helpless.

As asked by Anurag the police also come in the party. Anurag calls Gulabo in front of all and reveals Ritesh and her relation. He asks Gulabo to reveal everything in front of all. The police inspector gets ready and records Gulabo's statement. Gulabo lies that it’s Taani who is behind all the mess and also responsible for Ananya's death as well. Ritesh asks the police commissioner that now the truth is out in front of all and as he has recorded everything the picture is crystal clear that Taani is the accused. But he informs all that he does not want them to arrest Taani as he wants her to take care of his kids. Shekhar asks the police commissioner to keep Taani away from the matter as he she is going to be their daughter in law. The commissioner tells him that the whole media was there to record Gulabo's statement and hence it’s difficult for him to keep Taani away. Nupur congratulate Ritesh for handling the situation tactfully. He tells her how he threatened Gulabo not to reveal anything against him before all. Nupur tells him of the possibility of Gulabo revealing everything in future about him.Anurag is frustrated with Gulabo's statement. He sets out to ask her why she cheated him. Taani tries to stop him but he refuses to listen to her. Ritesh threatens Taani to keep Anurag away from his kids or else he will not spare him. Taani tells Laboni that she has a strong feeling that something wrong is going to happen. Anurag asks Gulabo why she changed her statement in front of all. Gulabo narrates how Ritesh threatened her to change her statement. She tells him that she is ready to reveal the truth if he assures to protect her form Ritesh. Ritesh keeps an eye on Gulabo and Anurag. Gulabo is shocked to see Ritesh. She loses her control and falls down the terrace. Anurag is still ignorant of the fact that Ritesh was overhearing their conversation. Later Ritesh calls up the police and informs them that Anurag pushed Gulabo from the terrace. Everyone doubts that Anurag is the one who is responsible for Gulabo's accident. Anurag makes them believe that Gulabo is still alive. He takes her to the hospital quickly. Nupur is happy when Ritesh informs her that Gulabo is no more. She is relieved that now she is free from her fear of Gulabo revealing her truth. Anurag informs Taani about Gulabo's incident. She rushes to meet Anurag in the hospital along with Shekhar and Laboni. Ritesh is relieved when the doctor informs them that Gulabo is no more. The police arrests Anurag on charge of Gulabo's murder. Shekhar does not let the police take away Anurag with them. He tries to convince them that Anurag is innocent but the police refuse to listen to him. Ritesh is happy to see the police taking Anurag with them. Taani is heartbroken to see Anurag arrested by the police on charge of Gulabo's murder. She refuses to let the police take Anurag with them. Nupur is shocked to know that Anurag is arrested by the police. Ritesh misses his kid’s presence in his life. He comes to their room when they are sleeping and attempts to click some pictures. He takes out his cell phone to click them and is stunned to see a video of Anurag and Gulabo. He decides to use this video as a tool to trap Anurag in Gulabo's murder case. Ritesh celebrates his win over Anurag. He decides to take his revenge from him for making him suffer and separating him from his kids. Nupur is shocked and asks him not to harm Anurag. But Ritesh refuses to listen to her. After that he asks Taani to marry him as she is the only one who can look after Ritesh's kids properly.But Ritesh leaves Anurag from the jail with his tricks in the court and gives Anurag a months time.Robindo introduces Jonaki.All are shocked.They all go in a jewellery shop and Anurag-Taani,Robi-Jonaki are buying haar for them.Anurag tells Taani that he knows that Taani wants what type of jewellery and that is Mangalsutra.Ritesh trys on a mangalsutra on Taani and this makes Taani unconcious.Anu comes rushing and takes Taani home.He cooks for Taani-Laboni and they have a nice time.Flour falls on Anurag and Tani makes him change the dress.Taani remembers the romantic time and she looks in the mirror and becomes sad.Nupur tells Anurag about the marraige blackmail by Ritesh to Taani.Anurag comes to know everything.Then anurag goes to kali mandir.There he says taani was his and will be his.Then ritesh blackmails that then he will send back anurag to jail.But catches his legs and says she will marry him.Anurag says he will also see how taani marry Ritesh.While she is sitting on the mandap she remembers all the moments with anurag and tells them to stop the marriage.then all the family members come and they arrest ritesh.Nupur reavels that she gave money to gulabo to tell the truth to annaya but now she is changed.Then neelu tells everyone that anurag and taani's marriage will be on robi's marriage. Taani is shocked when she come to know that Robindo is marrying Jonaki to take revenge from Mauli and make her realize that she had choosed the wrong man for her.She tell this to the both family but Robindo make a story on it,make the other believe that Taani is wrong and then no one believe Taani.Anurag ask Taani to think about her life and don't care about other's life for now. And after facing all the problem Taani and Anurag get married in full Bengali way,along with robindo and jonaki.taani tells this to anurags care taker and reminds anurag about their wedding anniversary and celebrates with him,care taker asks taani whether their first night happened,Taani tells Anurag's care taker that she and Anurag never spent a night together after their marriage. She remembers the time spent with the family after the wedding where Thakumaa has told that the newly wedded couples can’t stay with each other before the bau bhaath happens. Robindo gets jealous to see Mauli and Taposh together. Mauli and Taposh are shocked to see Jonaki sleeping in their room. Taani and Anurag spend some time together when everyone is busy taking a nap. Laboni is upset as Taani will be gone after sometime. She helps Taani pack her stuff. Anurag cheers up Laboni. Anurag gifts Taani her first wedding gift. The gift box gets exchanged with Jonaki's box. Jonaki is shocked to see saree in the box instead of the night gown which she had purchased for her first night. Taani is shocked to see a night gown in the box and shows it to Mauli. Mauli tells her that Anurag is a very loving husband and she should respect his feelings. Nilanjana prepares to welcome both her daughter in laws. Laboni gets angry when Taposh gets ready to go and save the farmers from an agitation and help them out from a terrorist group. Robindo overhears Bodhan sending the police force to the same village where Taposh is going. He plans to get Taposh's name involved in the terrorist group and send him to jail,The newly wed couples come for the bau bhaath. Taposh serves them food. Robindo intentionally calls Mauli to serve him some more food. But Mauli makes Taposh serve Robindo. Robindo gets angry. It’s the bidaai ceremony going on. Jonaki is least interested in it. Laboni gets emotional. Thakumaa tells her that Taani will be happy with her new family. They all take blessings from Bimal. Taani breaks down as she has to leave everything behind. Laboni can’t handle the pain of getting separated from her. Thakumaa asks her to send away Taani with a smiling face. Taani cherish the moment as now she is going to handle different responsibilities. Nilanjana welcomes both Taani and Jonaki. Taani feels more responsible towards the family now. Jonaki is happy as she always wanted to get married in a rich family. Thakumaa and Shekdar gives their blessing to the newly weds. The newly weds couples play games. Nilanjana favors Taani and asks her to win.
