A 30-year-old man attempted to end his life by jumping in front of a train at Jnanabharati metro station on Tuesday. However, staff of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) rescued him.
The man has been identified as Siddharth from Bihar. According to BMRCL officials, the man was waiting at the station and jumped onto the tracks at around 1.13 p.m. when a train was approaching.
Immediately, an alert woman security staff Rashmi switched off the power supply to the tracks activating the Emergency Trip System (ETS). However, by the time the train came to a halt, the man was under the first coach, but unhurt. BMRCL officials later rescued him and handed him over to the police for further investigation.
The accused did not sustain any injuries as he was rescued in the nick of time. Train services on the entire Purple Line were resumed 15 minutes later and two trains were operated in a short loop at Mysuru Road instead of Challaghatta metro station, BMRCL said.
Police investigations have now revealed that Siddharth was a BCom graduate and worked as a salesman at an electronics shop in the city. He told the police that he was depressed over his financial troubles and had decided to end his life.
