There are a lot of great things about staying at my parents' house in coastal Maine: a huge chef's kitchen, a beautiful deck overlooking the water, and someone to do my laundry for a few weeks (thanks, mom). What's not great, though, are the old spring mattresses in the guest rooms. Sleep is something highly prioritized in my life — I'm a 9-hour-per-night person or else I'm wrecked the next day. Plus, those innerspring mattresses are known to wreak havoc on your hips, back, shoulders, and neck. So, while I always look forward to getting to the family home, I dread climbing into bed.

To say that the Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Cloud 2-Inch Mattress Topper ($175, originally $219) changed my vacation life wouldn't be hyperbole. Seriously, it's made such a significant difference in the spring in my step while I'm visiting, it's like I'm a different person. Ahead, find out why.

What I Like About the Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Cloud Topper

To put it simply, it's cozy AF. It took a hard, spring-loaded bed and transformed it into a womb-like, doughy paradise. The TEMPUR-Material, which interestingly enough was developed by NASA, really did feel like it was hugging my body and conforming to my curves. I sleep on my side, so I'm quite prone to sore hips and shoulders, but I woke up without any aches and pains after adding the topper. I was honestly very surprised that only 2 inches of memory foam could make such a difference, but after putting the topper on, it was like a different bed. I slept like someone who has never heard about "anxiety." Beyond the actual feel of the topper, as someone with pretty severe environmental allergies, I was excited that the cover was washable and dust mite- and allergen-resistant. Most toppers aren't washable — or don't include a washable cover — so this really set this product apart for me.

What's Worth Noting

Some Amazon reviewers noted that the measurements are slightly off, especially for the Twin XL. A few reviewers on the Tempur-Pedic site also said that it comes with a funky smell when you open it up — this wasn't the case for me. I will say that the photos on retail sites are slightly misleading; most of them look like the foam topper itself has an integrated cover. This is not the case — it is literally just a slab of yellow-ish foam, and the cover is separate. I guess this makes sense, given that you can take off the cover and wash it, but it looks a little bulky when you actually put it on your bed. It didn't impact my sleep, it was just a little less of a pretty picture underneath than I had imagined.

Who Is This Mattress Topper Best For?

If you have a bed that you want to be softer, this is for you. I doubt it will make much difference for a bed that is already made with memory foam, so this topper is likely only good for people who have a mattress with springs, a futon, a daybed, or a blow-up mattress.
