WEEI is getting a major shakeup for its morning drive show. Kirk Minihane is out as the "Kirk and Callahan" show is set to become the "Mut and Callahan" show.

On Wednesday, WEEI parent company Entercom announced that Minihane will be launching a new radio show, podcast and column on Radio.com, a digital audio outlet also owned by Entercom.

Previously, Minihane had served as co-host of the "Kirk and Callahan" morning show along WEEI mainstay Gerry Callahan. Mike "Mut" Mutnansky will take Minihane's place as co-host of the morning show.

In a press release, Entercom announced that "the WEEI morning show is being re-envisioned as a more sports-centric show consistent with the station's brand and position as Boston's sports leader. "

Minihane is known as one of the more controversial figures in Boston sports media. He was suspended on multiple occasions during his time at WEEi due to on-air incidents. The first was a result of profane insults directed at Fox Sports reporter Erin Andrews in 2014. The second came after a screaming match during a crossover segment in 2015.

Minihane had been on a leave of absence from the show following what he has described as a battle with mental illness.
