We've united an incredible group of more than 50 industry leaders -- music executives incl. Warner Music Group CEO Robert Kyncl and Live Nation Entertainment CEO Michael Rapino, artists incl. #elliegoulding, touring teams for #coldplay, #billieeilish, #harrystyles, and #jackjohnson, event organizers, venue managers, production experts, sustainability leaders, and NGOs. This group will provide expertise and advice on our upcoming sustainable touring report with MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative, Warner Music Group, Live Nation Entertainment, Hope Solutions, and our artist #coldplay. 🌎 Universal Music Group Introduce their *Global Impact Team* 🎵 Interesting announcement. What is this team's potential for driving significant change within the music industry and beyond? Susan Mazo steps up as EVP and Chief Impact Officer, showcasing UMG's dedication to important causes: sustainability and community engagement. With Dylan Siegler at the centre of sustainability, we can expect focused strategies aimed at carbon footprint reduction and more eco-friendly practices in all aspects of production and distribution. But it seems that it is not just about going green – It also looks like it is about giving back. UMG's partnership with Inside Projects will be key. As a strategy and marketing agency that zeroes in on social impact, they'll serve as an exclusive advisor, guiding UMG on communication and public policy, with an eye on both artist and shareholder interests. As a die-hard live music enthusiast, this fact hit close to home. But, I firmly believe that for real impact – be it sustainable, social, or financial – we must elevate our creativity and innovation to unprecedented heights. We need to embrace change fearlessly. New Post: Live Nation & WMG Execs, Reps for Billie Eilish & Harry Styles Join Music Climate Advisory Committee - https://lnkd.in/gXc9f92a - More than 50 members of the music industry have joined an advisory committee to help guide an ongoing study by MIT’s Environmental Solutions Initiative. The report, expected to be released this fall, is designed to provide a comprehensive assessment of the relationship between live music and climate change, to identify areas where the industry and concertgoers can make improvements to reduce emissions and create positive environmental outcomes, and to analyze the latest sustainable technology and systems that can be adopted in the live events space and other areas of the industry. The new advisory board includes Live Nation president/CEO Michael Rapino along with other Live Nation execs; Warner Music Group CEO Robert Kyncl; and reps from companies including Wasserman Music, WME, Atlantic Records, Upstaging, Inc., Farm Aid, Projects Tait, Global Motion Ltd., Women of Qolor Entertainment and many more. On the artist side, the committee includes Ellie Goulding, Adam Met of AJR and representatives from the live and touring teams of artists including Billie Eilish, FINNEAS, Harry Styles, Shawn Mendes, Fred again.., Jack Johnson and Coldplay. Participants also include reps from nonprofits and NGOs like Reverb, Support+Feed, Julie’s Bicycle, Global Citizen and Client Earth. See the complete list of participants here. YG ENTERTAINMENT Leads Sustainability Efforts in the K-pop Sector. In a time when sustainability is a global priority, the Korean entertainment industry keeps pace. YG ENTERTAINMENT unveiled its 2030 Sustainability Report last week, detailing plans for numerous sustainable practices. The K-pop leader aims to implement these across all local and international shows by 2030. Goals include developing work processes for greenhouse gas management, enhancing venue accessibility, fan involvement, content influence, safety, reducing venue carbon emissions, and establishing sustainable concert governance. This initiative is poised to establish new norms in the industry, encouraging the broad adoption of sustainable practices. YG ENTERTAINMENT has also pioneered addressing concert greenhouse gas emissions within the Korean entertainment sector, incorporating sustainability measures at BLACKPINK's 'Born Pink' encore concerts in Seoul. Coldplay, who have taken steps to reduce the #environmentalimpact of touring in the past, are to support #Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Environmental Solutions Initiative in their research to investigate the #carbonfootprint of the live #musicindustry. The Warner Music Group and Live Nation will also be co-funding the research. In 2022 #Coldplay partnered with companies including #BMW and #DHL as part of their ambition to make their Music Of The Spheres Tour as sustainable as possible and reduce #CO2emissions by more than 50%. They also pledged to plant a tree for every ticket sold and to draw down significantly more CO2 than the tour produces through investment in a diverse range of #carbonoffsetting initiatives. The new research will produce an Assessment Report of Live Music and Climate Change, which is anticipated to be completed in July 2024. This will aim to establish the relationship between #livemusic and #climatechange, identify what the industry and concert goers can do to #reduceemissions and provide an analysis of the latest developments in #greentechnology and #sustainable practices. The way concert-goers get to the venue is an often overlooked environmental impact and, in 2022, Live Nation partnered with Coldplay and major public transportation providers to offer fans free or discounted rides to the venue. This saw a 59% average increase in #publictransport journeys on show days across four #US cities. Within the venue itself, the band used an industry-first mobile #rechargeable show battery, made from recyclable BMW i3 batteries, and powered concerts by using #renewableresources including #solarpower and even stationary #bicycles. MIT Prof. John E. Fernandez, Director of the ESI said: ‘I’m delighted to receive support from our funders to co-create recommendations for a sustainable future in music. As well as jointly funding the research, I applaud the spirit of openness and collaboration that will allow us to identify specific challenges in areas such as live event production, freight and audience travel, and recommend solutions that can be implemented across the entire industry to address climate change.’ Live Nation already have sustainability division called Green Nation, which is working on reducing carbon emissions, energy use, #waste and #plastics its own venues and festivals. This is actually pretty cool. I think the music industry has a vested interest (especially after seeing the effects of recent years) in doing their part to make sure they’re not contributing to climate change. Live music is what it’s about, but if it isn’t safe for concertgoers then there may be issues for the future of live music. Would be interesting to see what kinds of data could be combined to gather insights in this area, and what potential job opportunities could arise from these initiatives to make effective and meaningful change
