The Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) reports continued growth in air cargo demand for April 2024, with a 13.7% increase in year-on-year international freight ton (FTK) kilometers. The growth is driven by a resurgence in manufacturing and e-commerce, particularly a demand for consumer and intermediate goods. However, freight capacity expanded by 14.4%, causing a marginal decline in the average load factor — down to 59.9%. #thefreightarchitects #jaguarfreight #logistics

Global Shipping Lines Extend Vessel-Sharing Agreement Four Asian and European container lines are extending their vessel-sharing agreement as rival carriers reset their alliances in a market beset by plentiful capacity and low freight rates. China’s Cosco Shipping, CMA CGM of France, Taiwan’s Evergreen Marine and Hong Kong-based Orient Overseas Container Line, a unit of COSCO, agreed to continue sharing ship capacity through 2032 under the Ocean Alliance pact they formed in 2017. Carriers say the shipping alliances allow them to offer broader geographic coverage while bringing costs down, and the companies said Tuesday that the deal extension will ensure they can continue to provide steady service. Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd said a pool of around 290 vessels will be used in the collaboration, offering a combined capacity of 3.4 million containers, measured in 20-foot equivalents, with Maersk deploying 60% of the ships and Hapag-Lloyd 40%. Asia-Pacific #airlines saw 17.8% year-on-year demand growth; demand on Africa-Asia trade lane zoomed 40.6% Willie Walsh, Director General, International Air Transport Association (IATA) says: "Air cargo demand moved sharply upwards in May across all regions. The sector benefited from trade growth, booming e-commerce and capacity constraints on maritime shipping. The outlook remains largely positive with purchasing managers showing expectations for future growth. Some dampening, however, could come as the U.S. imposes stricter conditions on e-commerce deliveries from China. European counterparts’ multi-decade dominance in tank container logistics seems impenetrable for Asian companies newly entering their home region. In 2000, there were only a handful with fleets over 10,000 ISO tanks. By 2010, 5-6 major companies had reached that scale. But in recent years, some Asian operators have been able to establish their footprints in Europe. Here are some key success factors: 1. After consolidating their position in the Intra Asia business, a few of them were able to grow their fleet size and network. 2. This customer base allowed them to pick up shipments from Asia into Europe. 3. As a result, with healthy inventory levels in Europe, good and reliable agents and forwarders started to tie up and partner with them. 4. With substantive European Companies shipping to Asian countries, the Operators from Asia were competitive given certain home advantages at the destination ports. 5. Since 2015, another 2-3 rapidly expanding Asian operators have crossed 15,000 tanks through strategic partnerships and entering new regions. The growth of Asian tank container companies has been steady but significant. While still dominated by European players controlling major share, these challengers have gradually claimed market share thanks to flexibility, localization, and alignment with customer needs. #logistics #transportation #isotank #tankcontainer

**Sharing of relevant information on shipping via the Red Sea** Affected by the situation in the Red Sea, Maersk, France's CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd and Mediterranean Shipping Company, the world's four major liner giants, have recently announced the suspension of all container transportation through the Red Sea. In addition to the four liner companies mentioned above, some freight forwarding companies have received notices from shipowners to suspend receiving Red Sea-related cargo from Evergreen Line and ONE, and some freight forwarders have suspended receiving Red Sea-related cargo from COSCO Shipping. Some freight forwarding companies also said they were still waiting for notification. Orient Overseas International (OOCL), a subsidiary of Orient Overseas International, issued an announcement on December 16 that OOCL would immediately stop accepting goods in and out of Israel until further notice. #airfreight #aircargo #logistics #freightforwarding #supplychainsolutions
