Today was mid-summer performance review time at CHS Inc. with my summer college intern. Now, some managers may cringe when performance review time rolls around. I, on the other hand look forward to it! And here's why: ✔️ This is time for you as a leader to really listen. Hear what is going well and what might not be going so well. ✔️ Now that you've listened repeat what you've heard. ✔️ Next ask clarifying or thought provoking questions. This shows that you care about them and are as excited about their future as they are. ✔️ Last, allow plenty of time for your intern to ask you questions. I recently participated in one of Boston Consulting Group (BCG)'s job simulations on the Forage platform, and it was incredibly useful to get an initial understanding of the work of a consultant at BCG. I learned how to think creatively by challenging the assumptions that guide today’s thinking and used effective brainstorm strategies to generate ideas to help a fictional luxury clothing company increase sales revenue. Doing this program confirmed that I really enjoy thinking strategically and working with clients to come up with effective growth strategies.
