There’s no bonding in remote work, right? Wrong! ❌ Here’s how we go about it at Shaped Thoughts ✨😎 As a remote-first company, we love the flexibility of working from home. But there’s something special about meeting face-to-face; we won’t deny it. That’s why, several times a year, our whole team meet on-site to mix work, fun and some good old team bonding. 🌞 Spring Team Onsite: We meet up at a location of our choice for productive work sessions, workshops and lots of fun activities. It’s a great way to strengthen our bonds and simply enjoy each other’s company. 🎄 Christmas Team Onsite: As the year wraps up, there’s a special event marked in our calendars for December—Christmas onsite. This is the time for us to celebrate our successes, have a blast together and dive into the holiday spirit. A cherry on top is our festive Christmas Eve dinner. 👨👩👧👦 Family Onsite: There’s a funny story behind this one. A while back, we organised what was supposed to be a one-off to schedule our conflicts, but everybody loved it so much that it became our annual tradition. What’s it about, then? We bring our loved ones along for a weekend getaway where we build stronger connections making our work environment even more inclusive. These get-togethers have a special place in our hearts—they’re part of what makes our company culture thrive. They help us build stronger relationships, enhance teamwork, celebrate our wins, and create lasting memories. Are you a remote-first company, too? What’s your recipe for team bonding? #RemoteWork #TeamBuilding #CompanyCulture #WorkLifeBalance #ShapedThoughts

👀Colleague appreciation post 👀 Here's me with Tony Beere and Victoria Tomasiak scootering to work this morning. My two colleagues based in Vietnam and South America respectively. The world of remote work has its challenges, from juggling time zones to maintaining a healthy work-life balance. For me, I think there is a silver lining - the power of in-person 'face time'. Having worked remotely for over a year now, I've come to appreciate the importance of face-to-face interactions with the wider team. Although Slack and weekly meetings, work well for keeping us connected and on track, there's some ✨special sauce✨ about meeting colleagues in person and spending time with them. We're currently on our Allegrow company offsite in Austin and it's made me appreciate the team so much more. Outside of the agenda-driven meetings that we usually have we've been able to socialise, laugh, eat and just spend time together that we usually don't get in our day-to-day - yes this means watching terrible films on Netflix and me getting the blame for picking them... As I continue to embrace the flexibility of remote work, I think it's really important not to overlook the significance of coming together as a team. Whether it's an offsite or a conference, these moments strengthen our bonds and contribute significantly to our collective success. #RemoteWork #TeamBuilding #Offsite #WorkCulture #LinkedIn"

Now team Passionfruit are just over 3 weeks into our #remoteAugust initiative. Here's what I've noticed so far... ⏱️ Whilst tempting to lie in, keeping your routine as similar to in-office days helps to keep you focused and 'in the zone' 🗣️ Over communication is immensely important. Whether it is new hires starting, a product change, a sales win or a change in working location - it's important no one is in the dark because you're not in the office to hear the chat 🧑💻 Slack and email hygiene in particular is everything (and candidly something team PF needs to improve on). I'd say this has been one of our toughest challenges throughout this period with several people missing announcements, comments and dms because of a lack of hygiene. Any tips on improving this is v welcomed! 🌆 No one really cares where people are working 😅 even though we rolled out our 'Where You At Wednesdays' it wasn't really engaged with. The team are happy to crack on without really focusing on what other people are up to. A sign of solid focus but also an oversight that most of the team are just wfh as usual, as opposed to a on a beach hut in Mexico (what I imagined when rolling it out 😎) 💜 But lastly it's been genuinely beautiful to see team members coming together to celebrate one another. Whether it is writing a congrats note for a team member getting married, celebrating someones birthday, sharing the love on a new baby (obsessed), or just patting each other on the back for another week of hard work and progress. The team has come together more than I thought, and there's something about seeing everything written down that feels almost more impactful than an in office chat. Love that there's lots of learnings for next time to bolt on to everything that's already working well. What are your learnings from remote periods? 🧐

👎 Our team recently downvoted a suggestion for adopting a 4 day work week Here’s how it unfolded: An anonymous post was made in our AMA channel proposing the shorter work week. Typically, such suggestions spark a thread of discussions where everyone shares their views. However, this time we utilized our new voting feature within the Suggestion Box. This tool allows team members to anonymously express their opinions with just a click, streamlining the process of gathering consensus. The result? Decision-makers were quickly able to gauge team sentiment and make informed decisions on crucial matters. Looking to enhance how you collect feedback, ideate, and vet ideas—all seamlessly within Slack? Try out the Suggestion Box today and transform your team's engagement.
