At Get Well, we believe that empowering staff is the key to transforming patient engagement, especially for our Veteran patients. 🏥 A Southeastern VA Medical Center implemented a comprehensive training program for their staff, optimizing the use of Get Well's digital engagement platform. The results? Staff felt more confident and aligned with organizational goals, almost doubling patient utilization rates on the platform. Here’s what made the difference: 👩⚕️ Personalized Training: By shifting to smaller, unit-based sessions, staff had the opportunity for one-on-one interactions, leading to a deeper understanding and retention of information. 🤝 Enhanced Patient Engagement: Equipped with the right tools and knowledge, staff could more effectively onboard patients, guiding them through the platform and enhancing their overall experience. The quote "Nothing beats one-on-one training and interaction" perfectly captures the essence of this approach. When healthcare professionals are empowered and knowledgeable, they’re better prepared to deliver exceptional care. We're honored to support continuous quality care for Veteran patients and to foster such impactful improvements. Chief Strategy Officer at Legacy Lifecare | Program Director and Faculty of Master's Degree & Certificate Programs in Safety, Quality, Informatics & Leadership at Harvard Medical School
🌟 Celebrating Patient Safety Awareness Week! 🌟 As we mark Patient Safety Awareness Week, I invite you to join me in reflecting on our journey toward safer health care. This week serves as a powerful reminder of the critical importance of patient safety for both our patients and the dedicated workforce who serves them. 🌐 Why a Focus on Safety?: While we’ve made significant strides in patient safety over the past two decades, the sobering reality remains: medical harm continues to be a leading cause of death worldwide. The World Health Organization estimates that 134 million adverse events occur annually due to unsafe care in hospitals in low- and middle-income countries, resulting in approximately 2.6 million deaths. Closer to home, as many as 250,000 to 400,000 deaths occur each year in the United States due to errors or preventable harm. These incidents not only impact lives but also ripple through families, affecting physical health, emotional well-being, and financial stability. 🌱 Our Collective Responsibility: Preventing harm in healthcare is a public health imperative. Every one of us interacts with the healthcare system, so therefore we all have a role to play in advancing safer health. As we celebrate the progress we’ve made, let’s also acknowledge that there’s still much more to accomplish. 🔍 Explore Additional Training Opportunities: Now more than ever we need healthcare leaders who have the skills to lead effective change in their organizations. I highly encourage any healthcare leader looking to make a positive impact to explore two exceptional programs at Harvard Medical School that I’m proud to be a part of for additional training: 1. #SQIL (Safety, Quality, Informatics, and Leadership): a 1-year certificate program that equips leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to drive transformative change in healthcare safety and quality. It’s a dynamic blend of evidence-based practices, informatics, and leadership principles. 2. #MHQS (Master of Science in Healthcare Quality and Safety): MHQS is a comprehensive master’s program designed for professionals committed to elevating patient care. Participants delve into quality improvement methodologies, patient-centered approaches, and the latest advancements in safety science. 🌟 Let’s Keep Moving Forward: During this Patient Safety Awareness Week, let’s celebrate our progress, honor the tireless efforts of our healthcare heroes, and recommit ourselves to the pursuit of safer care. Together, we can create a world where every patient receives care that is not only effective but also free from harm. #PatientSafety #HealthcareQuality #HealthcareLeadership #Harvard #harvardmedicalschool Harvard Medical School Postgraduate Medical Education https://lnkd.in/eCkpKvDD

#ThrivingToGetWorkDone Post 4 of 9: The Importance of Clear Goals and Expectations: Setting the Stage for Success Clear communication of goals and expectations is vital when working with people who don’t directly report to you. It ensures everyone is aligned and working towards the same objectives. Here are two short use cases on how to activate this skill in routine work within the hospital industry: Use Case 1: Setting Expectations for a Cross-Departmental Quality Improvement Initiative You’re leading a cross-departmental initiative to improve patient discharge times. At the start, you gather the key stakeholders from Nursing, Administration, and the Medical Records department. You clearly outline the project goals: “Our objective is to reduce patient discharge times by 20% over the next quarter. Each department plays a critical role—Nursing will ensure timely completion of discharge instructions, Administration will streamline the billing process, and Medical Records will expedite the final documentation. Let’s aim to have weekly check-ins to track our progress and adjust as needed.” By setting clear expectations, you align the team’s efforts towards a common goal, minimizing misunderstandings and delays. Use Case 2: Clarifying Goals for a New Patient Feedback System Implementation In another scenario, you’re part of a team tasked with implementing a new patient feedback system across the hospital. You kick off the project by clarifying the goals: “Our goal is to increase patient feedback participation by 30% within six months. The IT team will handle the technical setup, the Nursing team will encourage patients to participate, and the Quality department will analyze the feedback for actionable insights. Everyone’s role is crucial, and I encourage open communication if challenges arise.” This clarity in goals and expectations ensures that everyone understands their role in the project’s success. #My2Cents: Clear goals and expectations are the foundation of any successful collaboration. When everyone knows what’s expected and why it matters, it fosters accountability and drives collective success. Let’s make sure we’re all on the same page to achieve our shared objectives. These posts aim to invoke a better overall environment by sharing practical ways to enhance workplace collaboration and productivity. What strategies do you use to communicate goals and expectations? Share your thoughts in the comments! #Leadership #Teamwork #WorkplaceCulture #ClearCommunication #HealthcareLeadership #ThrivingAtWork #Collaboration #HospitalAdministration

The Importance of a Clear Mission: Similar to the Fellowship's mission to single focus to destroy the One Ring, having a clear mission in healthcare, like improving patient outcomes, guides decision-making and unites the team towards a common goal. Teamwork and Collaboration: Healthcare, like the Fellowship of the Ring, must promote collaboration among diverse professionals such as doctors, nurses, technicians, and administrative staff to provide optimal patient care. Resilience in the Face of Adversity: Like characters in "Lord of the Rings", healthcare professionals encounter challenges everyday but should persevere with resilience and positivity. Compassion and Empathy: Characters in the trilogy demonstrate compassion and empathy, qualities crucial in healthcare for better patient care and satisfaction. Continuous Learning: In "Lord of the Rings," characters like Sam and Aragorn learn on the job, adapt and evolve continuously. Similarly, in the healthcare field, ongoing learning is crucial due to the swift progress of medical knowledge and technology. #healthcare #lordoftherings
