I absolutely LOVE hackathons, and it was an incredible honor to serve as the only woman on the judging panel for the Surge Hackathon on AI, hosted by the SAP Academy for Engineering! With nearly 80 SAP engineers flying in from around the globe, I was truly impressed by the creative presentations that used music and role-play to showcase customer value, while leveraging cutting-edge technologies like GenAI multi-modal capabilities, mobile and app development, BTP (Business Technology Platform), S/4HANA, and more. One standout idea was inspired by Coldplay’s collaboration with SAP to promote sustainability. The team developed a chatbot to provide fans with personalized insights on their sustainability impact—a fantastic blend of innovation and purpose! Other impressive innovations included a virtual medical assistant that generates doctors' notes from audio, AI tools to enhance developer productivity with GitHub summaries, automation for SAP project managers via Joule, AI-driven solutions for navigating complex government documents, and much more. Visiting the San Ramon office and learning about the Academy’s five core values—Courage, Compassion, Craftsmanship, Community, and Curiosity—was an inspiring experience. It was a privilege to connect with so many brilliant minds who are pushing the boundaries of AI. Together, we’re applying Business AI to solve real-world challenges and deliver meaningful impact for our customers. This summer I had the incredible opportunity to participate in the SURGE program at the SAP Academy for Engineering. The program began with self-learning and virtual sessions and culminated with an intense 2 weeks of in-person education at the Academy in San Ramon, California. Through a variety of immersive activities including technical sessions, expert speakers, improv, and community events, we learned about becoming better engineers and above all else becoming better people. The best part was sharing the experience with amazing colleagues and building friendships along the way. Thank you to Ferose V R and everyone who helped to make this inspiring program happen - it's an experience I will never forget!

Two intense and unforgettable weeks of the SAP Surge program at the SAP Academy for Engineering in San Ramon have come to an end. It was an exceptional experience with just the right balance of technical sessions regarding Generative AI and SAP technology, inspirational talks of thought leaders, opportunities for personal growth, a challenging hackathon and community activities. But what truly stood out were my fellow participants. It was an absolute pleasure working with such a talented group of engineers. The camaraderie and collective brilliance of everyone involved made this experience truly special. I've always wondered what makes an organization successful. Early on, I was taught by Ferose V R, that keeping the customer at the center of all things we do, is what grounds an organisation towards it's true north. We have embraced this philosophy wholly, in the cohorts, we work with at the SAP Academy of Engineering. At the latest SURGE Cohort, which gathered the best minds from across 12 countries of the SAP Family, at the San Ramon Academy facility, the participants got to experience solving a real customer problem as a part of the 24 hour Hackathon. The Hackathon focussed on building AI applications for businesses. Themes were ranging from Project Management in S/4 via GenAI prompts, to transcribing medical documents from speech, to solving sustainability problems for Coldplay (an app built by SAP Academy for Coldplay in 2022). An open track also was provided, some teams came up with exciting ideas, like helping search the right people in an organisation, helping migrants read documents in various languages to comply to local policies and more.
