Google's NotebookLM has had an update! We are living in the future right now! Does AI Really Encourage Cheating in Schools? Very interesting article and it mirrors a lot of the feedback that I am getting at schools I visit. A bit of a summary... AI Cheating Concerns: Despite fears, AI hasn’t significantly increased student cheating. Only 3% of papers were entirely AI-written, and 10% showed some AI traces. Teacher Distrust: Many teachers are now more suspicious of students’ work due to AI, but detection tools can be unreliable, especially for non-native English speakers. Historical Parallels: Past technologies like graphing calculators and Wikipedia faced similar cheating concerns but ultimately proved beneficial. Educational Focus: The debate highlights the need to emphasize work habits and critical thinking over rote memorization. Policy and Implementation: Schools need clear AI policies and should avoid quick judgments, instead focusing on comprehensive evaluations of student work. Amazing times that we live in, imagine this as a gamer... tonight I feel like playing a game that is a cross between Skyrim, Red Dead Redemption, Frogger and Donkey Kong, make it so... 🕹️ AI creates DOOM video game in real-time The Rundown: Google researchers just developed GameNGen, an AI system that can simulate the classic game DOOM in real-time, running at over 20 frames per second and producing visuals nearly indistinguishable from the original game. The details: GameNGen produces playable gameplay at 20 frames per second on a single chip, with each frame predicted by a diffusion model. The AI was trained on 900M frames of gameplay data, resulting in 3-second clips almost indistinguishable from the actual game by playtesters. Running on a single TPU, GameNGen handles Doom's 3D environments and fast-paced action without traditional game engine components. In tests, human raters could barely distinguish between short clips of the AI simulation and the actual game. Why it matters: GameNGen is the first AI model that can generate a complex and playable video game in real-time without any underlying real game engine. We’re at the fascinating time where soon, AI will be able to create entire games on the fly, personalized to each player. Congratulations Google Gemini Team! In huge AI world news for the first time ever, Google DeepMind's experimental Gemini 1.5 Pro has claimed the top spot on the AI Chatbot Arena leaderboard, surpassing OpenAI's GPT-4o. This is pretty massive news and shows just how far Gemini has come in the past few months. I think Education users should be seriously considering the spend on Gemini Advanced Licenses.
