Enhanced Sustainable Forest Management: Increased Green-Tree Retention Continuing our series on innovative forest management practices developed in collaboration with The Nature Conservancy, this week we’re focusing on Increased Green-Tree Retention. What It Is: • Healthy Overstory Trees: We leave a portion of healthy overstory trees onsite after harvest. • Creating Diverse Microclimates: This practice fosters diverse microclimates and habitat features. • Supporting Biodiversity: It sustains and enhances complex mixtures of plants and animals. By integrating this practice into our forest operations and harvest plans, we aim to sustain and enhance local biodiversity. 🌲 Relieving the pressure on primary forests through restoration projects 🧐 Primary forests are irreplaceable ecosystems, crucial for biodiversity, clean water, and carbon sequestration. However, they're under constant threat from illegal logging, agriculture, and more. At Go Forest, we believe that conservation efforts alone aren't enough. That's why we're dedicated to community-focused reforestation and agroforestry projects to alleviate the pressure on these critical habitats. 🤝 Our projects involve local communities in decision-making and sustainable forest management, creating new forests that provide necessary resources while protecting primary forests. By promoting education, sustainable practices, and economic opportunities, we help local populations thrive without harming primary forests. 🌿 Discover how our restoration projects make a difference and learn what you can do to help protect these invaluable ecosystems. Read the full article to find out more about the importance of primary forests and how we can all contribute to their preservation. Together, we can ensure that our planet's primary forests remain untouched and thriving for generations to come. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eJcNUd_3 #GoForest #PrimaryForests #Reforestation #Agroforestry #SustainableManagement #Biodiversity #ClimateAction

Enhanced forest management practices are crucial in environmental conservation and community empowerment with sustainable livelihoods, preserving biodiversity, protecting water sources, and fostering community resilience. Sustainable logging practices are key to improved forest management (IFM). They involve techniques and approaches that aim to minimize the environmental impact of timber extraction while ensuring the long-term sustainability of forests. IFM directly benefits local communities residing in or depending on forest resources. By promoting sustainable livelihoods, such as community forestry enterprises and agroforestry initiatives, IFM creates economic opportunities and improves the well-being of communities. Many of our @FORLIANCE projects include sustainable timber production. This way the projects positive impacts on carbon sequestration, biodiversity, and community well-being are maintained beyond the project's lifespan, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations. 🌳 Embracing the Power of Trees 🌳 Trees are more than just towering beauties in our landscapes; they are the silent guardians of our planet, providing us with oxygen, absorbing carbon dioxide, and offering a sanctuary for biodiversity. Today, let's celebrate the remarkable contributions of trees to our environment and communities. From shading our streets to enhancing property values, their benefits are endless. But let's not stop at celebration. Let's take action. Whether it's participating in tree-planting initiatives, supporting sustainable forestry practices, or simply appreciating the greenery around us, each of us has a role to play in nurturing and protecting our arboreal allies. Let's make a commitment to stand tall with trees today and every day. 🌳💚 #Trees #Environment #Sustainability #ArborDayEveryDay

Enhanced Sustainable Forest Management: Widened riparian buffers for enhanced habitat and water quality. In 2023, TIG and The Nature Conservancy identified a set of priority forest management practices aimed at enhancing the health of important ecological areas within our portfolio. These practices are adapted to the local ecosystems where they are applied. One of these practices is the delineation of widened streamside (or “riparian”) forest buffers. What It Means: During harvesting operations, we leave forested streamside buffers that are wider than the requirements of our third-party forest certification standard or the recommendations of local Best Management Practices (BMPs). Why It Matters: These wider buffers can play a vital role in maintaining water quality, protecting ecologically important streamside forests, and reducing wider temperature, thereby supporting aquatic biodiversity. Integrating these widened riparian buffers into our forest operations and harvest plans is just one of the practices we are implementing as part of our commitment to fostering healthier ecosystems and ensuring the sustainability of our forests. Celebrating today is special for us!👇 90% of ecosystem restoration projects worldwide rely on low biodiversity seedlings, and 45% of projects only consist of a single species. However, here at MORFO, planting with BIODIVERSITY is MANDATORY. Among the benefits of biodiverse forests are: 🌬️ Greater carbon capture capacity (+70% according to a recent international study) 🪴 Improvement of soil fertility 🌱 Increased forest resilience 👫 Benefits for local populations Today is a day to protect and conserve the variety of life forms on our planet, from plant and animal species to entire ecosystems, just as we do here!
