What do you do if your confidence wavers during high-pressure product marketing situations?
Preparation comes in many forms. I like to get feedback from peers and build a coalition ahead of time. Rehearsal and backup slides are always good, and if something unexpected comes up, you have others to support you. It may make sense to stay at a high level and agree to discuss the topic in more detail in a subsequent meeting.

You have a product marketing strategy but no feedback. What's the best way to get some?
There is room for both qualitative and quantitative research methods. It just depends on what data you are trying to collect. Surveys are good fit for things like CSAT and NPS or how your product compares to the competition. Qualitative methods like VoC & focus groups may be better for understanding desired outcomes for customers, the value of existing product features, what may be missing on your current product, and what they are willing to pay.

How can you prioritize product improvements with marketing metrics?
I think before we talk about metrics, we should question whether focusing on the product alone is the right approach. I believe a company should consider a “solution”, which incorporates other elements like services and software. For instance, a product may be a good, even a great fit for the market, and yet not deliver the expected outcomes. That’s because not every customer always uses a product the same way or for the same purpose. Some products are quite complex and may need to be set-up, adjusted or calibrated to perform a specific function. In other cases, perhaps a customer may have a workflow that involves multiple instruments, where the output or data of one product directly affects the performance or productivity of another.
