    BioCurious is a not-for-profit community biology lab. It was the world's first "hackerspace for biotech" where members could learn, share ideas, collaborate on projects, and eventually, start companies. It was founded from a core belief that innovations in biology should be accessible, affordable, and open to everyone.

    I took a small amount of Kickstarter money, convinced a landlord to take a chance on a team with a big idea and very little money, and opened to the public a few months…

    BioCurious is a not-for-profit community biology lab. It was the world's first "hackerspace for biotech" where members could learn, share ideas, collaborate on projects, and eventually, start companies. It was founded from a core belief that innovations in biology should be accessible, affordable, and open to everyone.

    I took a small amount of Kickstarter money, convinced a landlord to take a chance on a team with a big idea and very little money, and opened to the public a few months later. I handled all things operational - made the engine run. I also developed and ran several workshop series, "The Business of Biotech", "Founders' Tales" where founders shared what worked, what didn't, and their advice for entrepreneurs, and "Saturday Morning Science", for kids. I co-produced scientific posters & papers, and won the "Maker Award" for Education and Best Overall at Maker Faire in 2012, and 2013 respectively.
