(MCCEI) needs YOU! ⭐️ We set the ambitious goal of bringing our Construction Career Day event to 𝟭𝟬𝟬𝟬 students in Baltimore. The schools have answered! The kids 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚. 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟱 𝗮𝘁 𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘂𝗺! ⭐️ But we are short about 10-15 companies to provide hands-on activities for the students to do, as well as volunteers to help guide the students around during their field trip. 🏗️ MBI Town Hall Meeting Recap 🏗️ This past Thursday, Jon Hannah-Spacagna, Government Affairs Director at MBI, hosted our Town Hall meeting with Rhode Island State Building Official, James Cambio. 🌟📰 James shared exciting news about Rhode Island's progress in the modular construction industry: -The state passed legislation this year to exit the Interstate Industrialized Buildings Commission (IIBC), making it easier for the modular industry to do business in Rhode Island. -James is finalizing guidelines for the new state program, which will be based on ICC/MBI standards 1200 and 1205. Currently, the industry can utilize third-party inspection agencies for plan reviews and inspections, with the state conducting a cursory review before issuing state labels. -Rhode Island plans to adopt the 2021 International Existing Building Code, likely with some state-specific amendments. -Manufacturers are welcome to use multiple third-party agencies for inspections, removing the previous IIBC guideline limitation. -For existing structures, any relocatable structure with an IIBC label will be accepted by the state until the new program is in place. This meeting showcased significant strides in simplifying regulations and advancing the modular construction industry in Rhode Island. Does networking work? Ask my client in New Hampshire He is an electrical subcontractor, looking to grow and get a bit more organized. We have been focused on his operations and one day we got on the topic of why this is important. I said, you can't be bogged down on the routine day-to-day work, you need time to get out and sell, do some one-on one marketing. He paused, looking at me curiously (these are zoom calls) What am I supposed to be doing? Meet new and existing builders, nothing fancy just take them out for coffee. We discussed the format and discussion flow, when he paused again. I am not comfortable cold calling builders; it will look like I am desperate for work. I get it, I said So, do this, talk to the other trades you know and ask them for a recommendation. Now you can have a comfortable conversation with a peer and get a referral to new builder they already know. Referrals like this are powerful, remember, sales are based on "know, like, and trust," that's what you are building. On last week's call he blew my mind He told me he had coffee with a plumber he knows from a few of his projects. He made the ask for a referral The plumbers reply: absolutely, I have about 14 builders I work with that I would be happy to refer you to. BOOM 14 referrals, for a cup of coffee and a conversation. We discussed follow up strategy and how to have the conversation with builders who "have their guy." But even if this opens the door to 1 or 2 new clients it is a huge win. I wonder who the HVAC sub is working with? This is the power of networking This is the outcome of business coaching. And he now is building the infrastructure to support the growth. In fall 2023, DelDOT and its partners, G&F, HaulHub Technologies and iCone Products, completed two trials of a connected work zone. What is a connected work zone, you ask? To DelDOT, a connected work zone is one in which the equipment itself provides estimated quantities, reports on quality control metrics, reports its emissions for inclusion in EPDs, provides information for asset management, and most importantly, provides its status to the traveling public to make the work zone itself even safer. #Coordination Whether its amongst trades, with the client, end user or design team, coordination is a critical function of every successful project. Coordination and forecasting especially ring true when working on intricate major medical spaces.
