The nationwide wait list for pediatric heart transplants does not consistently rank the sickest patients first, according to a new study led by Stanford experts in pediatric cardiology and economics. Although patients’ survival while awaiting a heart has improved in the last 25 years, the changes are due to better medical care, not how hearts are allocated.
