After the recent tragedy in Barrow County, our counselors, behavioral health specialists and therapy dogs have visited several Barrow County schools to support and comfort students, faculty and staff as they navigate this challenging time. We are so thankful for the team’s compassion and for the countless other people, near and far, who have stepped up to help in so many ways. During these dark moments, it’s the love and care we show one another that brings hope and healing. Together, we are #BarrowStrong.

Last week, NGHS leaders, community partners, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) came together for a special emergency preparedness drill facilitated by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (a branch of the DHS). Together, they discussed the plans, procedures and response actions for specific emergency scenarios. NGHS is one of the first in the state to take part in this training and will continue to work with the DHS to design, develop, conduct and critique a more intensive, hands-on exercise to prepare for future emergencies.

Kaleigh begins each day with smile and always goes above and beyond to support her Employee Health team and the organization. She reflects NGHS Core Values by working with Deep Interdependence and a Passion for Excellence. Kaleigh has an unwavering commitment to lend a helping hand and answer any questions that her coworkers may have. She responds with compassion and with the success of her team in mind. Kaleigh takes on any challenge without hesitation. She took on the task of organizing the employee needle stick injury paperwork with a sense duty and accountability and ultimately improved the needle stick injury end process. No matter what kind of day Kaleigh maybe having she greets everyone with a warm smile. She checks on her team members throughout the day and stops by each office asking “Friend, do you need anything? Is there anything I can assist you with?” Kaleigh reviews her team member’s work to ensure that each person has completed the correct documentation for new hires, annual compliance, etc. She gives excellent feedback without being condescending. Kaleigh welcomes all NGHS new hires with a smile and makes them feel so welcome. She takes her time with each new employee and tells them a little about her experience here and what a great place it is to work. Kaleigh is recognized almost every day during huddle by her coworkers. We all laugh and say Kaleigh should have a permanent spot under Recognize with Heart on our huddle board. Kaleigh is an amazing nurse with a huge, caring heart for everyone she meets.
