Our team is thrilled to be a part of this important healthcare project, designing + planning wayfinding + donor recognition with our partners, GNU Group, A Division of Impec Group. Take a peak at the thoughtful design that Herzog & de Meuron + HDR are creating for University of California, San Francisco.
Nestled into the landscape of Mount Sutro, the new UCSF Health Helen Diller Hospital will be a holistic healing environment for all. Warm materials, welcoming amenities, and access to green space and extensive views of nature create the best environment for patients to heal and for staff to recharge from the stress of daily hospital life. The three layers of the building correspond to different programs. The base contains critical clinical functions while being a welcoming and human-scaled entrance for pedestrians along Parnassus Avenue. The middle volume is inset to create a communal terrace with restaurants and a large garden with views of Mount Sutro. Finally, the tapered form of the top volume is for patient rooms—gradually stepped back to reduce the perceived scale of the new hospital from the street below.
