Aurora Mini-Con, presented by Comcast, is this Saturday, Sept. 21 and will have activities for all ages and fandoms🎮💫🎬 This free festival will feature gaming tournaments by Aurora eSports as well as trivia and costume contests with prizes. Escape puzzles, Super storytime, SuperSHEro magic show and a comic writing workshop will also be available for everyone to enjoy. The term is ending Dec. 31 for three Aurora Planning and Zoning Commission members, and the city of Aurora is accepting applications now to fill those seats. The deadline to apply to be considered for one of the impending vacancies is Oct. 11. The Aurora City Council will determine candidates to interview by Oct. 28, with interviews taking place during the Nov. 4 council study session. New commissioners will be appointed Nov. 18. The outgoing commissioners may reapply to be reappointed, which may impact the current schedule based on any City Council decision to reappoint. Do you love going outdoors and connecting with nature? 🌻 Consider taking part in the Prairie Restoration Project at Plains Conservation Center. During the restoration workdays, volunteers will remove non-native invasive plant species, seed and plant native prairie species and monitor changes to determine success as part of a research experiment. No experience required! Volunteers must be ages 12 and older. Volunteer opportunities take place on Thursday mornings and one Saturday and Sunday per month. The Aurora City Council will meet tonight, Sept. 9, for a Study Session at 5:15 p.m. and a Regular Meeting at 6:30 p.m. Both meetings can be viewed at AuroraTV.org, Comcast Channels 8/880 or via the AuroraTV phone/streaming app. Those without access to those platforms can call 855.695.3475 to listen to audio only. The public can attend the Regular Meeting in the Paul Tauer City Council Chamber at the Aurora Municipal Center, where a live stream of the Study Session will also be available. The public may submit comments for Public Invited to be Heard, or for a specific agenda item on the Regular Meeting agenda, by either attending in person or calling the live public comment line at 855.695.3475 and pressing *3 to reach the operator. The operator will ask which item you would like to speak on and place you in the queue for that item. Speakers have up to three minutes each to address council. There is no limit to the number of people speaking on agenda items, and there is one hour devoted to Public Invited to be Heard on non-agenda items at the beginning of the Regular Meeting. Callers wishing to speak during the Public Invited to be Heard portion must call in by 6:30 p.m. Callers for public hearings or specific agenda items must call in before the Clerk calls the title of the item they wish to speak on.
