Please refer to the post by Prof. Markus Kraft for a detailed description of the recently published paper in Nexus, available at (https://lnkd.in/eWgw6WMg). Nexus, Cell Partner Journal
I am happy to announce the publication of our latest article #DigitalFacilityManager : Automating operations of research laboratories through #TheWorldAvatar ". In it, we showcase an integrated approach to automate and digitise the management of research facilities by demonstrating reduction in energy consumption and deploying applications that empower lab workers to make better decisions and remotely monitor the lab via mixed-reality technology. You can read the article here: https://lnkd.in/e4uxiKaT (I recommend the HTML version as it also contains embedded videos of our accompanying mobile and augmented reality applications) This concludes our recent series of papers detailing our framework for holistic #LabAutomation with the help of #TheWorldAvatar. By emphasising the importance of peripheral aspects such as infrastructure and equipment information, we are able to digitise and automate a wide range of tasks that are typically part of very different roles: a #DigitalResearchScientist plans, conducts and analyses experiments while a #DigitalLaboratoryManager monitors ongoing activities in the lab and ensures safe and efficient operations. Lastly, a #DigitalFacilityManager provides a stable environment and improves resource efficiency. You can find an overview of the framework and related articles on our website: https://lnkd.in/e-AvKXnw I am glad to publish our final article in this series in the Cell Press journal Nexus (https://lnkd.in/ehUafPwE) where we also initially laid out our vision in a perspective article. Our research sometimes does not fit within traditional categories or fields, but this journal (edited by Jerry Yan) gives home to any applied cross-disciplinary research and already boasts a wide range of fascinating research areas. Thanks to Simon Rihm for leading this interdisciplinary, transnational, and cross-team effort as well as all colleagues involved in this project at Cambridge CARES, University of Cambridge, and CMCL/CMPG. #TheWorldAvatar #TWA #DigitalTwin #DigitalLab #LabAutomation #Nexus #AugmentedReality

Nexus, Cell Partner Journal New #ResearchArticle | The Digital Lab Facility Manager: Automating operations of research laboratories through “The World Avatar” https://lnkd.in/gghbFY7g #Automation in #facility #management is critical for enhancing efficiency and sustainability. However, significant challenges in interoperability and adaptability of #digital tools are prevalent, particularly for specialized facilities like #chemical research #laboratories. To optimize the operations of such facilities, free up #resources of managers and researchers alike, and ultimately accelerate scientific progress in a comprehensive way, a holistic approach toward #smart #buildings and automated labs is necessary. Such a system mandates access to a broad #knowledge model across scales and disciplines, which mandates collaboration that can be achieved only by #collaboration across fields and institutions. This empowers research facilities to plan and utilize their resources in a more #sustainable manner while building up a framework that can help technological advancement by eventually automating all scientific research. #CellPress #Nexus #NationalUniversityofSingapore #NUS #CARES #Automation #laboratories #digital #SmartBuildings #Sustainable
