Avaaz is a global web movement to bring people-powered politics to decision-making everywhere.

About us

Avaaz -- meaning "voice" in several European, Middle Eastern and Asian languages -- launched in 2007 with a simple democratic mission: organise citizens of all nations to close the gap between the world we have and the world most people everywhere want. Avaaz empowers millions of people from all walks of life to take action on pressing global, regional and national issues, from corruption and poverty to conflict and climate change. Our model of internet organising allows thousands of individual efforts, however small, to be rapidly combined into a powerful collective force. The Avaaz community campaigns in 17 languages, served by a core team on 6 continents and thousands of volunteers. We take action -- signing petitions, funding media campaigns and direct actions, emailing, calling and lobbying governments, and organising "offline" protests and events -- to ensure that the views and values of the world's people inform the decisions that affect us all.

Water is life, yet it’s a scarce and costly resource in #Somalia. Decades of war, and years of deadly droughts and floods have forced families to buy water at exorbitant prices. In the heart of the Sanaag region, a small, community-run organization is flipping the script. With our help, they’ve already connected health facilities and hundreds of homes to clean, affordable water—forcing private companies to slash their prices. Families can now wash, cook, and send their children to school. But there’s more to be done. We need your support to help expand this life-changing project. Your donation will help this pilot project reach millions more in the next few years. You'll be ensuring entire families can meet their daily water needs. Let's fund this transformative project, and help Somalians build their clean water future. 🌍💦 Donate here: avaaz.org/WaterForSomalia Many thanks to Adeso for this partnership!

Using firearms and teargas, the government has expelled thousands Indigenous Maasai to make way for safari tourism. Now, they’re taking it a step further by stripping the few who remain at home in the Ngorongoro district of their right to vote. The Tanzanian government is trying to keep it quiet to avoid backlash from pro-democracy funders – but a global roar from our movement can put the spotlight on this violation, force funders to draw a line in the sand, and help the Maasai to restore their right to vote. Time is running out to save a critical wildlife corridor in Nepal. In just weeks, hydropower companies want to start building three massive dams, decimating crucial habitat for snow leopards, red pandas and black bears and displacing the Indigenous Peoples who have safeguarded this place for centuries. Indigenous communities are fighting back in court, but there's no guarantee they'll win. But community activists have a brilliant plan to stop it: buy strategic bits of land to create a conservation buffer zone that blocks any new roads. No roads, no equipment, no dams. The plan would keep this entire wildlife corridor out of reach — 400,000 acres of life, protected. They just need the funds to make it happen. ⏰🏔️🐆 Engage with this post and follow us to stay updated: www.avaaz.org/stop_the_dam Images: Sebastian Kennerknecht & 'The Lungba Samba Community'

A mother could lose the right to parent her own child. A family is torn apart by strict abortion laws. LGBTQ people fear for their futures. A book is shredded in attacks on free speech. This is what life is like in Europe under the far right. Ursula von der Leyen, don’t normalise these policies.
