Guillermo del Toro was originally in the running to direct the feature film adaptation of the classic horror book anthology series Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark. According to Deadline, he has removed himself from the project and CBS Films has hired director André Øvredal to develop the film. The Norwegian filmmaker is best known for making The Autopsy of Jane Doe and Trollhunter.
Both of those films are great, so I actually like the idea of Øvredal taking on Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark! I think he's a great choice and I'm excited to see him bring this story to life.
The trilogy of books that the film is based on was written by Alvin Schwartz, and I'll never forget those iconic haunting illustrations created by Stephen Gammell. These books played a huge part of my childhood. My brothers and I loved the hell out of them.

Adam Levine and Miley Cyrus both hope the Maroon 5 frontman doesn’t have a “mini Miley” on his hands.
Although Levine and wife Behati Prinsloo’s daughter Dusty Rose just celebrated her first birthday in September, The Voice costars agreed during an interview with People that the 14-month-old already had a few things in common with Cyrus.
“Me and Dusty have very similar fashion sense and hair color, which I noticed today,” the Younger Now singer remarked.
“You do! The golden-ish blond-ish brown,” Levine replied.

The 55th New York Film Festival brought together cinematographers Vittorio Storaro (The Conformist, Apocalypse Now) and Ed Lachman (Carol, The Limey) for a master class on the occasion of both having films in the fest’s main slate. Lachman lensed Todd Haynes’ Centerpiece film Wonderstruck and Storaro did Woody Allen’s Closing Night film Wonder Wheel.
Festival director Kent Jones hosted the two at the Walter Reade Theater on October 11 for an all-encompassing talk of their cinematic philosophies and the cinematographers’ 40-year friendship.
Storaro and Lachman showed clips from films that inspire them and clips of their own work. The clips were a launching pad to discuss the difficult-to-pin cinematic language of photographic storytelling. We’ve included key quotes from their talk and the complete video of masterclass below.

Warning: The following contains spoilers for the epic Season 3 finale of Fear the Walking Dead.
Nobody can say that Season 3 of Fear the Walking Dead didn’t go out with a bang. Plenty of bangs, actually. Also, a big boom, a massive splash and enough (potential) casualties to have made the two-parter a series finale. Who (could we be sure) was left standing when the dust settled? Read on…

“North or South?”
I remember a high school gym coach asked me this question, wondering which part of Vietnam my parents were from. When I related this to my mother, she became upset, believing that this person wanted to label me as an enemy or an ally depending on their take on the war. And maybe she was right, but that isn’t why I didn’t answer the coach. I simply didn’t know the answer at the time.
Children don’t often know much about their parents’ lives previous to their becoming parents, but this knowledge gap is especially wide when it comes to the younger generation following the Vietnam War. PBS’ 10-part documentary series “The Vietnam War” is here to bridge that gap.

What and extraordinary hour of television! Well, technically it was an hour and eight minutes.
We were promised a landmark event, unlike anything we have experienced before, and Underground Season 2 Episode 6 did not disappoint.
There are not many words I can say to properly break down the installment and do it justice. It really is one of those events you have to experience for yourself.
Harriet has been the dark horse of the season. She commands your full and undivided attention every second she's onscreen, but she hasn't occupied as much of the screen as expected.
Apparently, that was because the show was building up to an entire episode dedicated to Harriet Tubman. It was everything one could possibly hope for and more.
It is an incredible risk having an entire hour of a season dedicated to a new character. It's even riskier when you think about how the hour played out.

Naked and Afraid premieres on Sunday night, and by all accounts, the show has amped up the drama for its seventh season.
But despite the season’s twists, the Discovery Channel isn’t changing the show’s basic format: two buck naked participants — a male and a female — are dropped into some of the world’s harshest environments with one survival item each and a canvas bag that covers up very little of their nudity.
Discovery has enlisted a dynamic duo for the season’s first episode.

Twenty-seven-year-old Patrick Starr – born Patrick Simondac – explains in his own words how he turned his love of makeup into a YouTube empire complete with international business trips and 1.8 million subscribers.
Growing up, we didn’t have cable – and we didn’t really have internet, so I watched the local channels. That meant reality shows like America’s Next Top Model or Miss Universe or The Swan. I loved The Swan. I loved all those kind of shows.
I also studied classical piano. I even taught piano lessons in my teens. I loved playing the piano. It was like auditory art.

Here are some highlights from the Star Trek Beyond filmmakers press conference, and be sure to catch the film in theaters everywhere this weekend.
Simon Pegg on the challenges of creating something new that still respects “the old”:

Matthew is still very active in film while continuing to work on shows like C.S.I., NCIS, and Wgn’s new series Salem. Matthew was extremely generous in his donation of prizes for our contest, and was even gracious enough to take time out of his busy schedule to answer a few questions for me!

“Back to the Future” has die-hard fans all around the world (a fact probably more evident today, on the long-awaited October 21, than on any other day). Fans are still reeling from McDreamy's sudden death in April – and at the Television Critics Association's press tour Tuesday, ABC's president discussed the network's "difficult decision" to have him die in a car crash.

Ivanka Trump isn't Donald Trump's only gorgeous daughter! Tiffany Trump, the business mogul's kid with second wife Marla Maples, took to Instagram to share a series of bikini-clad snapshots during a sunny vacation at her dad's Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida. The college student currently attends the University of Pennsylvania, and she's also making a name for herself in the music business after releasing her first single, "Like a Bird." "I love music, it's always been very dear to me," she told The Daily Mail in 2013. "It's more of a hobby right now, but we’ll see in a couple of years if I actually want to take it to the next level as a professional level. Right now the focus is on school." Tiffany was raised by her model mom in California, and she said living far away from her famous family gave her a different outlook on life.

I must have met E.O. around the winter of ‘96. He was that kid from around the way that was in Spike Lee’s Clockers. We’d catch each other in the heights here and there but not often enough. Years later I decided to make my own short film. I sent Elvis the script. He was down. We shot with a few hundred dollars on the Canon Xl (the Excalibur of its time) on the stoops, brownstones and rooftops of Harlem, New York.
The film had some sweet humble success with festivals all things considering. I still don’t know how best to direct actors but Nolasco always had that razor sharp focus when it came to his craft. He made it seem effortless but I knew it came from years of discipline. He’s gone on to work with some of the best and after a few pilots that weren’t picked up, ABC will debut "American Crime," an anthology series based on class, race & gender politics created by Academy Award-winner John Ridley, on March 5th. Fast forward, 2015, there’s nothing like seeing your homeboy’s billboard on Sunset and Vine.
LatinoBuzz: Do you recall that first moment you wanted to be an actor?
Elvis: I can honestly say that...that moment of wanting to be an actor, was a moment that found me. After many early years of dancing, it was not until I arrived at George Washington High School, where I was faced with the options of what I wanted as my extra curriculum studies. Now, the only thing on that list that came close to dancing was "Introduction to Theatre". I said "well maybe I can get to dance in this class"... (Not So). It was my drama teacher Robert Stonebridge who after the first few weeks in his class he saw something in me, that I of course did not see in myself. He challenged me to play the role of Bill Starbuck in the play The Rainmaker. From that moment on, I found my voice, my body felt something magical and new, I felt comfortable, I finally was introduced to a new form of expression, the freedom of expression, the art to play. That was the moment and I never looked back. Thank You Mr. Stonebridge.
LatinoBuzz: What was the most discouraging moment you have ever experienced?
Elvis: That's a good question. I feel that the times I've had experience those moments, it has been when I've allowed outside voices to try and deter me from my path, my passion. Those voices can be very discouraging and destructive to one's journey. Today, I make sure to listen to the voice inside me, the voice of the heart, the voice of my passion, my truth.
LatinoBuzz: Who has been the biggest influence in your life and work?
Elvis: That's a long list, however I'll narrow it down to this many... My mother, my father, who have taught me the importance of hard work in a very dignified way. My aunts and uncles, who have taught me the value of family, music, dance and history. My good friend Robert (Fileo) Lewis, who has taught me the power of unconditional love. My brothers and sisters, especially my younger brother Yanko "Valentin", who is always, and I mean always busy and relevant, I'm telling you that kid don't stop. Work wise...Spike Lee, Darnell Martin, John Ridley...And tons of many, many more...
LatinoBuzz: What's your take on the ‘Whitewashing’ Hollywood has been accused of lately?
Elvis: The Whitewash of Hollywood is not new but the broader conversation that we are having about it is. The fact that people of color are not the only ones involved in the public conversation about it, is new. That's a good thing for everyone involved. Diversity in film and television benefits society as a whole.
LatinoBuzz: You did a one-man show based on Junot Diaz’ Purlizter Prize awarded ‘The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao’ – you didn’t find that daunting at all? We are talking a very celebrated novel.
Elvis: Oscar Wao? Daunting? Nah! When this project was brought to my attention, I was immediately in and up for the challenge. I, at that time (2010) had already read Junot Diaz' previous works, had read The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao two times, therefore I was of fan, a fan of the book and of Junot’s work. Now, having said that, to sit in a stuffy New York City basement at a theatre on 36th street with the great director Elise Thoron for two whole weeks (lost count of the hours) and together work on the adaptation of this magnificent, extraordinary and compelling Pulitzer prize winning novel...Ok, I think we can now revisit that word... ‘daunting”... Lol. We were able to narrow it down to an hour and 10 minutes and tell the beautiful story of Oscar De Leon and Yunior and audiences loved it. Truly a pleasure to take on this story on stage.
LatinoBuzz: I always have to ask this: Your dream role, dream director, dream co-star.
Elvis: Dream Role? I would say, playing Sidney Poitier on the big screen. Directors? Clint Eastwood, Denzel Washington, Lee Daniels. Co-Star? Will Smith.

An actor, musician and a playwright who sort of came swanning into the driver’s seat in 2012 stringing the prestigious Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting and ranking just below Whiplash on the 2012 Black List with the aptly titled Stockholm, Pennsylvania. The double mention jettisoned the first-time writer-director into Sundance’s Directors Lab for June of last year and went into production in early February. Saoirse Ronan and Cynthia Nixon toplined this party-pooper item — which promises to visit a truly dark place in the child survivor psyche, and as the trades suggested at the time, might be shockingly accurate in terms of some baffling real life events that occurred for the captive women they found in Cleveland. Bravura performances are almost assured in what might be a pin-drop subject matter stunner. Arnaud Potier (Mélanie Laurent’s Cannes debuted Respire) and oft Sundance film editor Joe Kloytz are among the tech fold.

During the 1980s I played with and destroyed a lot of my favorite toys. It was during the '90s where I started to take better care of my toys, and I started collecting them. I still have a bunch of action figures from that era that are still in the original packaging. One of my favorite action figure lines from this era was Todd McFalane's Spawn. Those things were freakin' awesome! That's also the time I started collecting the twelve inch G.I. Joe figures. I loved going to the various toys stores to collect those things. A lot of those stores don't even exist anymore. There are a few toys, though, from the '90s that completely slipped my mind, until I was going through some boxes and came across some that sparked some fun memories.

The Playstation 2 dominated the gaming market in the early 2000s (this gamer talk is leading to The Matrix, I promise). Not only was this due to the quality games that were being released for the platform, but a large part of its success is thanks to the fact that the DVD player-equipped console was around the same price as standalone DVD units at that time. So the number of people buying the PS2 to play games was probably close to the amount of people buying it just so they could watch The Matrix on DVD. My brothers and I would have fallen smack in the middle of that imaginary venn diagram. The Matrix was on a constant loop in our house for a very long time. Even though I’ve seen The Wachowskis’ sci-fi masterpiece countless times, watched the subsequent sequels (not nearly as many times but still a lot...

A little over a day removed from the New York Comic Con, I found myself in a bit of an existential funk. My bearded brethren of Unshaven Comics and I had seen a whopping 40% increase in our book sales. On all accounts, we should have been cheering and rejoicing the entire 14 hour ride home. They dressed up as a couple of extraterrestrials and made their friend believe that he was being abducted by aliens in the middle of the night. The prank was awesomely successful, and their buddy was scared shitless. Just wait until you see his reaction… It's priceless.
