Nearly two decades have passed since the release of the song ‘Kabhi aana tu meri gali’ by pop band Euphoria, featuring Vidya Balan. Vidya Balan recently reminisced about how her first Bollywood film, ‘Parineeta’, directed by Pradeep Sarkar in 2005, came her way.
Reflecting on her experiences while shooting the song alongside Palash Sen and under Sarkar’s direction, Vidya told Ians: “I remember when I shot ‘Kabhi aana tu meri gali’, it was over five nights. When I say nights, the shoot was supposed to be from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. But dada (Sarkar) would shoot beyond that.”
The National-Award-winning actress used to reside two hours away in Chembur, Mumbai, from the shoot location in Boisar.
“For five days, I did not come back home. I had a model friend living close by, and I would go to her house, bathe, come back, and sleep on location,” she recalled with laughter.

Not to disappoint Ranveer, she bluntly said, “he is a ‘Besharam’ (of course in a good way)”. Ranbir, the charmer, is romancing his way to glory. His sizzling chemistry with...

October 31st is Halloween, when kids (of all ages) dress up to go trick-or-treating. Then, of course, there are the cool adults getting in on the costume fun to go to Halloween parties. Since we are all Bollywood buffs, okay fanatics, we thought it would be fun to poll our writers to see who they would love to dress up if we had a Bollywood Halloween – Bollyween Ball. Boy oh boy were we flooded with amazing and inventive ideas.
Some of these costumes you could probably put together easily. However, some might need extra help from family, tailors, costume designers, stylists, costume engineers and even Oscar winning makeup artist Greg Canoom (transformed Srk in Fan and Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire)!!
Check out how the excellent team of BollySpice would celebrate Halloween Bolly-ish style.

Bollywoodactor Sanjay Dutt sought blessings from West BengalChief Minister Mamata Banerjeeduring a visit to the state secretariat Nabanna in neighbouring Howrahdistrict on Monday.
He also lauded the development initiatives taken by Banerjee in the state.
“After what happened to me in the 1993 incident, Didi (elder sister – as Banerjee is affectionately called) was the only one who supported me. After that I always wanted to come to Kolkata and thank Didi. Because no one had supported me back then. Only Shatrughan Sinha and Didi were by my side,” Sanjay told reporters here.
Sanjay was handed a five-year sentence by the Supreme Court for illegal weapons possession in a case linked to the 1993 serial blasts that killed 257 people in Mumbai.

Audiences will soon witness screen veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan revisiting the whodunit genre as grandfather John Biswas in upcoming thriller, TE3N.
Talking about the genre and his role he says, “Indian cinema has always been making films like these. It’s just that, given the stage I was at earlier in my career, perhaps nobody thought of doing something like this with me. But now there is an opportunity because of my age, which enables me to play an older, weaker character. You don’t expect him to be able to do something and that’s basically what the outline of the character is. John Biswas is a middle-class man, he is Anglo-Bengali and there has been a tragedy in the family. He only has his wife and son. His family doesn’t live with him, but he’s keen to find out what happened and how. I don’t...

Vidya Balan is the champion of the female-centric genre in Bollywood and broke the trend that only movies with male actors can set the cash registers jingling at the Box Office with her movies The Dirty Picture and Kahaani.
Having won numerous awards worldwide for her acting skills, the 38-year-old actress also completed the duties of a jury member at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.
TE3N (Three) centers around John Biswas (Amitabh Bachchan) who lost his granddaughter, Angela, in a tragic kidnapping incident that scarred him and his wife Nancy forever. But eight years later, while the world has moved on, John hasn’t given up his relentless quest for justice. He continues to visit the police station where he’s shunned and ignored daily. He continues to revisit the spot where Angela breathed her last, hopelessly looking for clues. The only person whose help he seeks is Martin Das (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), an ex-cop turned priest,...

Vidya Balan is without a doubt one of the finest actresses in Hindi cinema. From her debut in Parineeta where she blew us all away, to her amazing turn in Kahaani, to the fun and oh so good Bobby Jasoos from last year, Balan always completely becomes her character and makes us completely forget she is acting. From what we have seen so far in the trailers, she once again is going to take us on an incredible journey with her character in the romantic drama Hamari Adhuri Kahani. Written by Mr. Mahesh Bhatt and directed by Mohit Suri, the film also stars Emraan Hashmi and Rajkumar Rao.
First you must see the trailer!

In an amazing, open interview with Stacey, Vidya revealed more about how she became a part of Hak, the challenges she faced playing her character and so much more.

Hamari Adhuri Kahani director Mohit Suri promoted his movie with Vidya Balan and Emraan Hashmi at a radio station. While Vidya Balan was all praises for the movie, Mohit Suri spoke on how the movie has a different story.
Vidya Balan, at the event said, "I haven't done a love story after Parineeta, but this is a beautifully intense love story. I'm glad that I'm part of this film because it's special for me in many ways."
When asked about how Hamari Adhuri Kahani is different, Vidya referred to Mohit Suri, who in turn said, "I think love doesn't have a very different language. If you are saying Hamari Adhuri Kahani isn't popcorn romance, then it is absolutely not popcorn romance. It wasn't there in Aashiqui 2 or Ek Villain either."

Vidhu Vinod Chopra has produced some of the best in Bollywood from 1989’s Parinda, to 2003’s Munna Bhai Mbbs and the follow up Lage Raho Munna Bhai in 2005, Parineeta in 2005, 3 Idiots in 2009 and last year’s big hit Pk. After making some brilliant films in Bollywood, the director decided to pursue a long held dream of making a film in Hollywood. What is even cooler is that he is just not producing the film, he also wrote and directed the thriller titled Broken Horses. The film stars a huge cast of Hollywood stars including Vincent D’Onofrio (The Judge, Full Metal Jacket, Men In Black), Anton Yelchin (Star Trek, Alpha Dog) and Chris Marquette (Alpha Dog, The Girl Next Door) along with Spanish actress, Maria Valverde (Exodus), Thomas Jane, and Sean Patrick Flannery.
Broken Horses is about the bonds of brotherhood, the laws of loyalty, and the futility of violence.

Bollywood actress Vidya Balan is keen on meeting weavers of hand-loom saris to understand their work and promote it.
The Parineeta actress, whose penchant for wearing and collecting saris is well known, is now keen to learn more about their creation and promote indigenous textiles.
A source close to the actor says, “She receives a lot of saris from designers across the country. Recently, one of her admirers — who owns a brand of hand-loom saris in the south sent her 21 hand-woven saris as a gift. Seeing their texture, she felt that this indigenous craft must be promoted seriously.”
As a result, Vidya has started reaching out to designers and expressing a desire to meet the weavers, as she wants to spend time with them and look closely at how saris are made.
“She has also decided to wear more hand-loom saris so that she can promote Indian textiles,” adds the source.

Vidya Balan is currently hard at work on Hamari Adhuri Kahani directed by Mohit Suri. The romantic drama also stars Emraan Hashmi, and Rajkummar Rao. Written by Mahesh Bhatt, reportedly based on real life, the film is set to release in June next year.

As a film journalist, it is common practice for us to regularly speak to actors and actresses about their upcoming film or project. Yet as someone who is passionate about Hindi Cinema, I consider it an incredibly rare treat to be able to speak to either a director or a producer who has played a fundamental role in orchestrating the making of a film. BollySpice had the absolute pleasure to speak with one of India’s most acclaimed filmmakers Mr Vidhu Vinod Chopra. He is the man who has directed several hit films such as Parinda (1989), 1942: A Love Story (1993) and Mission Kashmir (2000). Mr Chopra has also worked with director Rajkumar Hirani as a producer in films such as Munnabhai Mbbs (2004), Lage Raho Munnabhai (2007) and of course the global blockbuster 3 Idiots (2009).
We spoke to Mr Chopra about the upcoming film Pk, starring Aamir Khan, Anushka Sharma, Sanjay Dutt, Sushant Singh Rajput and Boman Irani.

In any industry where the lead police cops are often shown as larger than life, one-man army characters, Mardaani is a welcome respite. Directed by Pradeep Sarkar, (Parineeta, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag), Mardaani’s Shivani Shivaji Roy tries to steer clear of the Chulbul Pandeys and the Singhams of Bollywood cops and manages to do so to quite an extent.
From the first scene of the movie itself, Pradeep sets the tone of the movie as well as the protagonist. Shivani (Rani Mukherjee) is a Crime Branch Officer who finds her personal and professional life entwined after Pyaari (Priyanka Sharma), an orphan kid who she considers as her daughter, gets kidnapped. What on the surface seems to be a case of a missing kid leads to a darker and murkier world of sex trafficking which the antagonist Walt carries on such a large and organized scale that it will chill your bones.

Starring Vidya Balan, the film about a lady detective, we hear not only has a social message but it also is a fun and entertaining movie. We chatted with Vidya and Dia, now see what their partner in crime, or movies that is, producer Sahil Sangha, had to say about the making of Bobby Jasoos.
Why did you choose Bobby Jasoos as a story you wanted to tell?
When it first came to us the one line on the film was, ‘Guys would you be interested in producing a movie that’s about a girl who wants to become a detective?’ And girl, detective, both sounded really exciting. The fact that she belonged to a small community and was pretty much from middle class India made it even more...

We have loved her work as an actress, but now Dia Mirza has taken on a new avatar. With Born Free Entertainment, Ms. Mirza, along with fiancé Sahil Sangha, started a production company to make the films and tell the stories they felt needed to be told. Their first production was the modern rom-com Love Breakups Zindagi. For their next film, they took on something that has not been seen in Indian cinema before… a female private investigator. Starring Vidya Balan, Bobby Jasoos, which hits theaters on Friday, tells the story of a girl who has a rather unusual dream to be the number one detective in the old city area of Hyderabad.

Bobby Jasoos is Born Free Entertainment’s second offering after the romantic comedy Love Breakups Zindagi. The film is set in Hyderabad and stars Vidya Balan as an aspirational detective. Balan is supported by an impressive list of artists, comprising of Supriya Pathak (Ram-Leela), Arjan Bajwa (Fashion), Ali Fazal (3 Idiots and Fukrey) and Tanvi Azmi (Dushman).
The musical-lyrical duo of Shantanu Moitra and Swanand Kirkire (3 Idiots, Parineeta) are the helm of the soundtrack, which features the vocals of Neeraj Sridhar, Shreya Ghoshal and Papon (‘Kyon’ – Barfi) amongst others. It is a short fare comprising of 5 tracks, thankfully devoid of any mindless filler remixes.

Seems we are going to have quite a long wait to get our first look at Rani Mukerji’s new film Mardaani because the script and everything connected with the film is being kept completely under wraps.
We do know that Rani will be playing a cop in the film directed by Pradeep Sarkar (Parineeta). In production now, the raw and gritty film we hear will be Yrf’s boldest subject ever to be made.
